Scottie Scheffler made history as he secured his victory at the 2023 WM Phoenix Open. He is the first player since Hideki Matsuyama to win back-to-back Phoenix Open titles. His exceptional performance to score 68-64-68-65 in the four rounds helped him win the fan-favorite event with a 2-shot lead.
Winning at the TPC Scottsdale is always special. After all, being in the presence of hundreds of thousands of fans would be a surreal experience for any golfer. To top it up, the event offers a whopping $3.6 million as prize money this year for the title champion. Despite all these and being young, the way the 26-year-old plans to celebrate his historical win might surprise everyone.

The 5-time PGA Tour winner was asked in a press meet after the WM Phoenix Open if he has any plans for the upcoming year. Scheffler responded that he didn’t have an affinity toward planning out the future. “I don’t really set long-term goals. I try and stay in the present.”
Similarly, all he planned to do was to go to Los Angeles and celebrate his win with his wife, Meredith Scudder, and their friends. “So for right now I’m going to go home, enjoy this win — not go home, go to L.A.”
Moreover, he also revealed his plans to play “in the Collegiate Showcase” on Monday morning. Notably, the champions celebrate their victories, especially as popular as WM Phoenix Open, with friends and family for a week or at least a couple of days. Instead, the two-time champion at People’s Open chose to celebrate with his wife and friends for the night and get backs to the pro mode the day after.

Scheffler’s return to the top
With his sweeping victory, the 26-year-old has taken back the world no.1 ranking from Rory McIlroy. As any professional player, Scheffler dodged the question in the press meeting about his feeling after his top spot regaining. However, he expressed his happiness in winning his first event of the year. “It’s definitely good to get a first win of the year. I hadn’t won since the Masters,” he said.
