The Greatest of All Time, Tiger Woods, had a great season—or did he? If you think so, you probably weren’t paying much attention. Let’s face it: Woods has barely been on the course since 2021. It’s not entirely his fault, though. After a long five-month hiatus, Woods recently teed it up at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie, sending fans into a frenzy of excitement. Before that? His last notable outing was at The Open Championship in July, where he missed the cut while battling back spasms.
Unfortunately, those back issues were not a small matter. By September, Tiger Woods underwent his sixth back surgery in the last decade. Yes, sixth!
At this point, you’ve gotta wonder how much more his body can take.

Fast forward to the PNC, where Team Woods put on a solid performance, finishing as runners-up after a playoff against Bernhard and Jason Langer. It was an impressive showing, sure; but is that enough for fans who’ve been waiting all year to see Tiger Woods back in action?
Here’s the thing. In 2023, Woods promised fans he’d play one event per month in 2024. But as the year went on, it became clear his health couldn’t keep up with the ambitious goal. Instead, he only managed five appearances, leaving fans frustrated. And let’s be honest, after a year like this, the fans’ patience tanks look set to reach their brim.

When TWLEGION recently asked fans on X (formerly Twitter), “Tiger Woods will play ____ events in 2025,” the responses were as dim as his season. Fans are skeptical, and who can blame them?

When the spotlight is on Woods, fans always have opinions. And after another year of rare appearances, those thoughts are pouring out—some hopeful, some frustrated, and others just plain honest. When TWLEGION asked how many events Woods will play in 2025, fans didn’t hold back. “5,” “4,” and even “2” were among the guesses. Then one chimed in with a bit of nostalgia, writing, “Senior Tour! I want to see him rough up his old competition! Ernie. Freddy. Vinay. The whole gang!” Honestly, that sounds like a good time. And let’s not forget, Tiger Woods can finally hop in a golf cart when that day comes. But for that, he has to wait one more year as he just turned 49.
Others were cautiously optimistic. “The Masters and then we will see…..” one fan predicted. Another added, “I’m hoping at the very minimum the 4 majors. Anything more than that would be a great bonus! Personally, watching golf just isn’t the same when Woods isn’t in the field.” Can anyone argue with that? Golf just hits differently when Woods’s on the course.
Then came the blunt truth-tellers. “That leg and back are not getting any better … 1,” one fan pointed out. And honestly, after six back surgeries, it’s hard to disagree.

But perhaps the harshest take came from someone clearly over the Woods hype: “When is this game going to end? He can’t play anymore. He shanked a few with Charlie last week. End this and wait for the Champions Tour. He’s nothing but a symbolic gimmick at this point. Surprised he even does this with all his historical accomplishments.” Ouch!
It’s tough love, but Woods’s been hearing it his entire career. Whether fans are rooting for his comeback, counting down the days to his Champions Tour debut, or saying it’s time for him to call it quits, one thing’s for sure— Tiger Woods still gets everyone talking. And with a new season just around the corner, we hope to see him get some love.
