Of late the controversy around OWGR points has heavily plagued golf. LIV Golf has not yet been approved for ranking points for its events despite having some of the best confers playing on its fields. This has seen many pros suffer on the overall leaderboard, and Bryson DeChambeau is one of the many. ‘The Scientist’ recently missed out on the rare chance of grabbing a few points at the Masters earlier this month, and as per his recent statement, it seems like he’s still upset about it!
Bryson DeChambeau trashes the OWGR system
Currently, the defectors do not receive any points for the events the international league hosts. And with their ban from the PGA Tour and now the DP World Tour, they have very rare opportunities to find some points to increase their ranks. Once such came at the Masters two weeks ago, but there too, DeChambeau failed to secure any since he didn’t make the cut and left home early.

Perhaps even if he had the golf pro, he would feel the same way about the system. After all, he claims it’s terribly broken! “You should realize that the OWGR is not accurate,” he said in the press conference ahead of LIV’s Singapore event this week. “I think that they need to come to a resolution or it will become obsolete.”

Having not been able to secure points for nearly a year now, the one-time major winner now ranks 178th in the world. And he certainly isn’t happy about it! “It’s pretty much almost obsolete as of right now,” he added, claiming that since the OWGR overlooks LIV, it wasn’t a fair reading. “If the majors and everything continue to have that as their ranking system, then they are biting it quite heavily.”

DeChambeau claims that the ranking system needs to change
The golf pro added that for the world rankings to actually matter, the system would need amending. “It’s very disappointing that that’s the way it goes because it’s not right,” he stated. DeChambeau added that if the OWGR didn’t change its ways and consider things from “both sides” and do what was “best for everyone,” then soon no one would accept it.

He believed that they certainly needed an upgrade and a move in the right direction. “Humans are always moving forward in… an innovative direction,” he stated, claiming the OWGR needed to hop on the upgrade train. “I hope they catch on pretty quickly, because they are going to run out of business pretty soon.”
