Some time ago, Charley Hoffman chose to call out the United States Golf Association (USGA) and PGA Tour on Instagram. His detailed post drew ample attention from fans and other players, many even agreeing with what the 45-year-old had to say. Having said that, Hoffman has decided to stick by his words despite their extremely controversial nature.
Currently, at TPC Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Hoffman was asked about his post. The golfer has stuck to his words, only reiterating the point made. Furthermore, Hoffman even brushed upon the subject of other tours, and why one might gravitate towards them.

Hoffman’s initial words of criticism about the USGA and the PGA Tour came after his even-par round at the Phoenix Open. As a result of two penalties, Hoffman’s overall round was affected. He insisted that he thought the rule had changed and remained upset over the fact that it had not.

This was related to Hole 13, which was a double bogey for Hoffman. His ball ended up in water off the tee, following which he resumed play with a penalty stroke. Unfortunately, a ball supposedly in play rolled right back into the water.
Even though the PGA Tour has since then defended themselves and their rules, Hoffman insists that the rule should have been changed.
“What I meant and what I said, I mean I think I explained it fairly well, but obviously not a huge fan of the USGA and how they govern us all the time,” he said.

Hoffman further admitted to his frustration, especially over the fact that a rule like that should have been changed. He even gave Rickie Fowler as an example, speaking of how this very same thing could have cost him the tournament. Though Fowler won, he could have lost – and the rule would have been responsible.
Additionally, Hoffman believes that things are going to change, and he will work towards doing so. He did what he did to start a change, and he also means what he said about the rules.
