Justin Rose isn’t only known for his 11 wins on the PGA Tour or his shiny Olympic gold medal. He has a philanthropic side as well that the community just admires. For around four years now, he has been a significant part of developing women’s golf. Following a recent revelation, the golfer is now receiving appreciation, while other PGA Tour pros are receiving the community’s wrath. But why?
Back in 2020, Justin Rose revealed that he and his wife are going to sponsor the Rose Ladies Series. In 2022, the Women and Golf website revealed that the Rose Open had a prize fund that was the second largest in the season on the LET Golf. The golfer believes that women’s golf doesn’t receive the funding, crowd, and viewers it deserves. Recently he talked about his reason behind this and said, “My wife was a very high-level athlete in her heyday. So, just listening to her story of her career, her sacrifice, all the things that you have to put to one side to be elite at anything deserves recognition and deserves reward.”
While talking about it, the golfer further added, “The work ethic doesn’t change from the men’s game to the women’s game. If you want to be elite, you’ve got to put in the time and the effort, and just to see it be rewarded as it was, obviously, that was a reason to step up,” as revealed on the Bunkered website. Coming to 2024, the Rose Open received a significant boost. The tournament’s X handle shared a post revealing that they are now increasing the prize money to $94,287 while thanking the sponsors.

One fan, while appreciating the golfer, also revealed how other pros don’t think like he does and said, “He’s top class. The others don’t care unfortunately.” Justin Rose has 11 wins to his name on the PGA Tour, including the 2013 U.S. Open Championship. Considering this, fans believe the golfer not only excels on the greens but off the course as well. Meanwhile, wealthy PGA Tour pros like Tiger Woods, with a $1.3 billion net worth, and Rory McIlroy, who has $170 million, have not been reported to contribute to women’s golf as Justin Rose does. However, there was a mews that TMRW Sports will be looking forward to diving into the world of women’s golf too.

This fan took a jab at both PGA Tour and LIV Golfers, saying, “This is growing the game. Not the PGA or LIV making already rich golfers richer.” Highlighting that, LIV Golf offers a hefty amount of money to professional golfers just to join the circuit, and it claims that they are all for growing the game. For instance, LIV Golf offered Jon Rahm reportedly $500 million even though he still had won $52,055,684 from the PGA Tour. PGA Tour also claims that via its signature events and elevated purses, it is focusing on growing the game of golf.
Andy Murray’s mom, Judy, also shared her thoughts, saying, “Women’s sport needs male allies, and Justin Rose is one of the best. Impressive and long-term investment in women’s golf.” While doing so, she also pointed out that if Justin Rose joins forces with other rich golfers like Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, and more, they can overall become a significant support for women’s golf that can last years.
This fan believed the current situation of women’s golf is because of a ‘lack of interest’ in the European countries and said, “Lack of interest for the women’s game in Western civilization is an age-old problem with no good solution.” However, despite the concern, there are no other known initiatives to solve this aside from Justin Rose’s efforts. Considering that, even they would have spent their money on expanding in Korea/Japan/Thailand and further added, “If I was the LPGA tour commissioner, I’d focus on expanding in Korea/Japan/Thailand and contracting in US/Europe.”

Harry Ewing, a caddie on the LPGA Tour, also shared a post talking about how Justin Rose is the only golfer on the PGA Tour who thinks about women’s golf like that. “Question for golf fans… is @JustinRose99 truly the only guy or male pro that gives a damn about the women’s game and young kids starting out? Imagine what 2% of last weeks fed-ex bonus pool could achieve for female pros! I just don’t get how nobody cares,” he said. The FedEx bonus pool was as hefty as $100 million.
