The most prestigious international event, the Ryder Cup, is now just around the corner. The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy, will host the 44th edition of the event, which will begin on September 25. However, with only a few weeks remaining, the event has already seen a lot of controversy. Arguably the biggest of them is whether LIV golfers will compete in the Ryder Cup.
Fans aren’t the only ones curious about his question. Defectors like Talor Gooch, who has back-to-back LIV wins, also wish to know whether they will be considered for the highly anticipated international face-off. And while he’s been trying to impress US Team Captain Zach Johnson in order to get on the team for months now, his Rangegoats GC friend has taken a stand on his chances of actually doing so.

Johnson has in the past made it clear that the LIV stars will certainly be allowed to compete at the Ryder Cup if they can qualify through the points system and prove their worth in the standings. However, whether, through the captain’s picks, he’ll be choosing any defectors still remains a mystery.
Nevertheless, Talor Gooch has been trying really hard to grab the Team USA captain’s attention by using his only mantra: “to play good golf”. He had already had three LIV wins this year, two of which were back-to-back, and earned $13,597,583 through his individual standings alone! Moreover, he’s been a favorite for many events this season, including the Ryder Cup. Well, at least for his RangeGoats GC captain, Bubba Watson, who stated, “Talor should definitely get a pick.“
However, Watson isn’t Gooch’s only teammate to speak up for him. Recently, Harold Varner spoke up in support of Talor. In an interview, when asked whether the 3-time LIV winner should be on the USA team, he said, “No Sh**. He Wants to Play on the Ryder Cup team, and some people think he should be on the team. But if he’s playing, I’d say yes every time.

Varner continued to praise Gooch while addressing how it’s not as simple as him deserving to play. He stated, “Who doesn’t want to represent their country? I mean, He is playing absolutely great golf. So, I think it’s going to be hard for him to sit here and be like, I don’t think I should be on the Ryder Cup team.”
While Gooch has his LIV family in support, Johnson himself hasn’t yet spoken specifically about the 3-time LIV winner and doesn’t seem to pay heed to this masterclass golfer as of now. Moreover, the 31-year-old has understood that it’s out of his hands and left the decision up to fate.

What did Gooch have to say about his own Ryder Cup admission for 2023?
Playing for the prestigious Ryder Cup trophy is a dream come true for many players. However, with the ongoing controversies and uncertainty, Gooch has understood that the decision is not up to him. He has accepted the fact that whatever has to happen will, and in the interview he stated exactly that.
“I think what I think doesn’t matter for it, unfortunately,” he said. Instead, he stated that he was going to “continue to play good golf” and leave the decision-making to “the people whose opinions matter.” “Hopefully we can sway them a little bit,” he stated, showing that he wasn’t thinking about it constantly but was still hopeful.
