The British Open champion Cameron Smith is finally back in his home in Queensland. Three long years on the road away from home have been harsh for him. And his happiness after setting foot in Australia was proof of his excitement. However, the pro golfer spoke to 7NEWS reporter, Pat Welsh, after landing at Brisbane Airport. With a cheery smile, he said he had ‘no regrets about his decision.

According to the LIV defector, the decision was scary initially as so much controversy surrounded LIV. “No regrets, I love it,” said the Australian golfer. When the Open Championship winner joined the Saudi-backed circuit, he was at the crucial point of his career. Therefore, suddenly making such a massive career switch was the epitome of bravery. With a big satisfying smile on his face, the pro golfer said, “Making a career move like that, especially at this point in my career was quite scary but I love it now and it puts a smile on my face.”
Being part of Greg Norman’s circuit was one of many reasons for thrilling Smith. Coming back home after years was a bonus for him. The first LIV event of 2023 will happen in Adelaide, and the Aussie golfer is ready for it. However, he is excited about playing in the LIV Golf tournament in his homeland. “I’m looking forward to not only playing in Australia, but playing in front of friends and family,” said Players Championship winner.

Does Smith miss playing for the PGA?

However, the long-going feud could not hamper the bonds of the LIV and PGA players. According to Smith, he is still close to many golfers, and they often hang out together.
The winner of the five tournaments on the PGA tour said, “I think most of the guys were happy for me.” His friends on the PGA tour wanted what was best for the Aussie golfer. They supported him in his decision, said Smith.
