Does Jon Rahm's $37.9 million win mean anything if no one cares about LIV Golf?

Jon Rahm made a debut into the LIV Golf schedule this season. Being one of the former NO. 1 golfers back in the PGA Tour, his luck was not favoring him at the breakaway league until the LIV Golf UK. The Spaniard bagged his first victory of the season at the tournament. Nonetheless, he has been consistent and bagged himself a lead on the individual standings. Moreover, he managed to come out victorious again on Sunday.

The 29-year-old professional golfer began by missing a few short birdie putts on the back nine. This kept Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann close to him at the game. However, things changed once he reached the 17th hole and bagged a 12-foot birdie. This gave him a quick start for the victorious path, and he got a three-stroke lead in Chicago. He finished with a 4-under 66 to lift the trophy at the 2024 Individual Championship, taking home a whopping $18 million bonus and the prize money. That brings his earnings from LIV competitions to $37.9 million.

NUCLR Golf took to their official X account and reported the news a few hours ago. They posted a picture of Jon Rahm and wrote, “Jon Rahm has won the LIV Golf Individual Championship at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Chicago, finishing the week at -11 par and 3 clear of Niemann.”

While Rahm was pretty much content with his performance and accolade, looks like the golf community went south about it.

The golf community criticized Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm accepted the offer to move to the Saudi-backed league back in December 2023 and the news was made official pretty much immediately. However, after joining the league, things were not going great for him. His gameplay had gotten downhill, and he also backed out of the major tournaments citing injury.

This is the 2X Major winner that we are talking about. The fans were already disappointed with his shift to LIV Golf, and well, his performance made it all the worse. With time, the Spaniard started losing his fans, as per the golf community. Taking to this, people left comments like “No one watched or cared”. While another pretty much took a jab at him and wrote, Does anyone other than @JonRahmOfficial’s mom care?expressing the same emotion.

Both the LIV Golf and the PGA Tour are already suffering with their TRPs due to the rift between the two leagues. And to add to the misery, the LIV Golf Individual was scheduled during the same week of the International Tournament (Solheim Cup) on the ladies’ golf circuit. Well, it is already a much-anticipated event, and golf fans generally look forward to the biennial tournament.

This ripped off more audience from the LIV Golf tournament. Taking to this, one of them clearly stated that they did not care for it since the Solheim Cup was on. “Tried to watch. Just can’t get into it. Solheim cup was awesome”, they wrote.

There have been rumors about Jon Rahm regretting his decision to move to the breakaway league. Although the Spaniard stated that he is quite comfortable with the move that he has made, the golf community does not agree with his statement, given how badly he is struggling even on the OWGR list. The pro golfer who once used to rank at No. 1 has recently dropped down to No. 14. This is because the LIV Golf members are not entitled to OWGR points. Taking to this, one of the fans commented, “He wants back on the PGA Tour so badly. You can just see it in the way he plays and Carrie’s himself ”.

Another fan used pure sarcasm as his weapon, pretending not to know who he is. Well, that was not it. Given Jon Rahm’s 2024 performance, despite not dropping down the top 10 in the LIV Golf events, they disregarded him as a professional golfer in the comments. This was practically due to his performance at the Major events that he was a part of.
