Padraig Harrington was the oldest golfer at Royal Liverpool on Friday to have made the cut. The PGA Tour Champions golfer has a penchant for defying age and claiming achievements no matter how tough things get. His passion for the sport aside, Harrington also loves to calculate his odds and emerge on top.

This season, Harrington was ready for the 151st Open Championship but had said earlier about the Ryder Cup that he will only change his schedule if he is seriously considered for contention. As a consecutive winner in 2007 and 2008, he earned his place in Hoylake but now he is not sure how long he can take the grind that comes from competing at the hallowed event.

Harrington has always been on top of his game regardless of whether he played the PGA Tour or the PGA Tour of Champions. At age 51, he still fought to reclaim his title at the 151st Open Championship. But now he doesn’t think he will play another Open at Hoylake, which is not likely to host the event any time soon. Although he may go on to play in a few Open Championships till he has exemption, till the age of 60. This only applies to former Open champions.

The three-time Major winner said as per IrishGolfer, “I was walking around here and saying, am I going to keep this yardage book? No, I don’t think I’ll be back to another Open here.”

“A bit disappointing to go and win it and only get seven years, wouldn’t it? If a 20-year old gets 40 years, and I go win it and I get seven, it would be terribly disappointing,” he quipped.

Harrington’s will remains unwavering for other challenges on the American Tour

Currently, as a member of the PGA Tour Champions,Harrington is preparing for the 2023 Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl. A year ago at Gleneagles, he finished in second place being one shot behind Senior Open Championship winner Darren Clarke. He did win the US Senior Open but Harrington has his sights on the title at Royal Porthcawl this week.

There is a problem though that may get in the way of his participation. Due to dealing with an injury on his ankle, he is uncertain if he will play the event at all. “I’d love to go down there and win it. I’ll wait and see what the golf course is like and the conditions for the week. It’s a long time since I’ve played it, so we’ll see,” he said. His fans will be waiting and Harrington himself has his ambitions for a title win. Unless the injury hampers him, there is a good chance he returns to winning ways in Wales after a taxing Open Championship where he finished tied 64th.
