The excitement for the Ryder Cup is reaching new heights as the dates are getting nearer. Following the announcement of the players for both Ryder Cup teams, much emphasis is being placed on the lineup choices. While some people are pleased with the selections, others have expressed displeasure. However, it is evident that no player is chosen carelessly. A lot of thought went into their selection.

Every player who is part of the team has very solid reasons to be there. And now, in the midst of all this Ryder Cup action, Team USA has strong reasons why Collin Morikawa will be Zach Johnson’s Trump Card at the Ryder Cup.

Why Collin Morikawa deserves to be on the US roster?

The 26-year-old golfer is having a great time this year. He came in second at the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this year, trailing Jon Rahm by just two strokes. At the Farmers Insurance Open, Morikawa secured himself a podium finish in third place. Additionally, he tied for second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Morikawa’s performance in the Tour Championship was the best of his professional career. He recorded a surprising 9 under par on the opening day, totaling 61. Morikawa shot a total of 7 birdies, 1 eagle, and 0 bogeys. He did join the elite 61 club despite finishing sixth.

His best games earned him a spot on the US team. And now another statistic has revealed why Morikawa was the right pick after all. With a driving accuracy percentage of 69.55%, the American golfer is second on the PGA Tour list for the 2022–2023 season so far. In terms of GIR percentage, he is third among all Tour players. He is also second on the strokes gained list. Ryder Cup USA posted this on its Twitter account.

With these statistics under his belt, we can surely expect the best game from Morikawa in the upcoming match-ups. And now the golf diva has also revealed the American team’s trump card for the Ryder Cup. But it’s not Morikawa.
