With her latest life-changing update, Jessica Korda stunned the golf fraternity. Announcing her first pregnancy, Jessica spoke of a break from the greens for some time. Her pregnancy news is also big for the younger sister and world number two Nelly Korda, who is going to be an aunt.
But despite the great news, things haven’t changed much for the younger Korda on the course. She hasn’t been able to show her might on the LPGA Tour for the most part of this year. Victories remain hard to get for her. As the curtains come down on the CPKC Women’s Open in Canada, there is yet another disappointment that comes her way. Let’s dive into the story.

Professionally, 2023 hasn’t been that great of a year for Nelly Korda. There is just one win to speak of which came in July. The one before that came in October 2022 at the Pelican Women’s Championship.
Her withdrawal from the inaugural Mizuho Americas Open was a big setback. Her performances haven’t been in line with her high standards, more often than not. However, in her defense, her health issues have been on the rise this year too. The blood clot that she got operated on last year and the back pain that continues to linger have been a roadblock on her way to success.
Her opting for a short sabbatical after missing the cut at the PGA Championship was a good call in hindsight. Days into her comeback, Korda won the individual round at the Aramco Team Series in London, her only victory of the year.
This week, she participated at the CPKC Women’s Open in Vancouver, Canada and despite strenuous efforts wasn’t able to find a place in the Top 10 on the leaderboard. She eventually finished with one-over-par for a T32 finish.
Earlier in the tournament, she enthused about Jessica’s pregnancy news. “It’s been exciting to kind of be in her corner through all this. I’m very excited for her and this next step. Obviously, she misses it out here, but it’s definitely been an exciting time for her and our family,” Nelly said.
Soon-to-be-aunt’s LPGA grade card in 2023
Nelly Korda has had a mixed year on the whole. She failed to make the cut in the Women’s PGA Championship, to her own and her fans’ shock. She also missed the cut at the Cognizant Founders Cup and had a disappointing finish at the US Women’s Open which was tied 64th. Although she did make top 10 finishes at the Eagle LA Championship, Chevron Championship, DIO Implant LA Open, Amundi Evian Championship, and the HSBC Women’s Champions. After her Aramco London win in July, her performances started getting a bit more consistent.

It was not long after her tied ninth finish at the Evian Championship that she reclaimed the top ranking. She couldn’t keep it for a long time though as Lilia Vu dethroned her after her AIG Women’s Open victory in Surrey earlier this month. Norda finished tied 11th. By her lofty standards this inconsistency is rather unbecoming for the golf star, Hopefully she sees an upturn in form as a result of the giddy exciting she has from welcoming a niece into the fold.
