The golf courses have seen their fair share of tragic incidents. What was supposed to be a normal ride turned out to be the biggest nightmare for the folks in Ayrshire. When everyone was enjoying the 2024 Open only miles away at the Royal Troon, in a tragic event, a woman lost her life near the Loudoun Golf Club. The golf club is 97 years old and was established in 1927.
An accident can strike you anyway, and it’s tragic every time. A 72-year-old woman passed away in a brutal three-vehicle accident. According to STV News, the accident occurred on Saturday, July 20, at 5:25 p.m. on the A71 at Galston when a blue Volkswagen Golf, driven by the woman, collided with a white Vauxhall Corsa and a green Land Rover Discovery.
Sadly, even with emergency services doing their best, they were not able to save her, and the woman was announced dead at the scene. But that wasn’t the only heartbreaking incident that day. The Corsa driver, a 37-year-old man, was also rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and is in serious but stable condition, with everyone praying for his speedy recovery. There is no update on the driver of the Rover as of now. No vehicle was allowed on the road until 1:30 a.m. for precautionary measures.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died,” said Sgt. Andrew Coutts, who is currently leading the investigation. He also asked the witnesses to come forward, saying, “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch. Likewise, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation, then make contact with officers.” Regrettably, this is not the only time a golf course has witnessed a gruesome incident in the past couple of months.

A 69-year-old resident of Crestwood, John Mills, tragically lost his life after being hit by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. He was trying to cross Shelbyville Road near Valhalla Golf Club when the horrible event occurred. The town was left heartbroken after this accident, as Mills was a hardworking vendor for the PGA of America and a respected citizen. The PGA of America officials were devastated by the incident and came forward to pay their respects to Mills.
“This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones,” shared the PGA of America, per the Wave website. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also shared his condolences on social media: “This is a tragic morning, and our thoughts are with the family of the individual lost. May their memory be a blessing.”.
Can we bring back those who have been taken from us? No. But what we can do is take action to protect and be kind to the ones who are still with us. Let us honor the memories of those lost by prioritizing safety, love, and support for those around us.
