On January 8, Tiger Woods parted ways with Nike, ending a 27-year-old partnership. Now he is looking for potential sponsors, with Greyson and TaylorMade being the prime contenders. However, it looks like Nike was the first to bounce back!

Brooks Koepka‘s Smash Golf Club recently posted a picture of X with the caption, “Smashing into 2024”But what raised the eyebrows of fans was the custom Nike shoes that came alongside it.

This cryptic tweet has consolidated a rumor that has been going on since May 2023. According to an X account that regularly covers LIV Golf, Nike was looking to acquire Brooks Koepka’s Smash Golf Club for $2 billion in 2023! A fan speculated Nike offloaded Tiger Woods so they could invest heavily in Smash GC with Brooks Koepka.

Looks like negotiations have finally come to an agreement and we will see Smash GC alongside Nike in LIV Golf. But this news also means a bad omen for Tiger Woods’s favored league, the PGA Tour.

After splitting with Tiger Woods, Nike currently sponsors PGA Tour players Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Tommy Fleetwood, alongside LIV Golf’s Brooks Koepka. It also looks like Nike is now favoring the side of LIV Golf. On the other hand, the PGA Tour is losing sponsors due to their policies, as pointed out by McIlroy.

With Nike also showing a growing interest in LIV Golf, this surely should ring the warning bells in Jay Monahan’s organization. This move will mean other brands will also follow suit and look to invest in the Saudi-backed league. However, there is a possibility the amount to invest in Smash GC came from the cost-cutting plan by the clothing brand.
