At the LIV Golf Mayakoba, the first event of LIV’s 2024 season, Bryson DeChambeau is gracing the field with a new member of his team. The Crushers GC’s captain is a league loyalist and someone who speaks his mind. DeChambeau had been vocal about the PGA Tour-PIG merger in recent days.

As the $3 billion merger comes to a close as per reports, the 2021 PGA Championship winner talked about sponsors supporting LIV Golf teams and players. DeChambeau revealed the future of brand sponsorship and LIV Golf.

The Saudi Arabia-funded league is starting in mere 24 hours with some of the best players in golf. In the past three years, LIV Golf has acquired many names from brands to high-skilled golfers. One such sponsor on LIV is Nike. The apparel brand sponsors Brooks Koepka and his team Smash GC.

However, the 12 teams are not as fortunate. Talking the pre-match presser, Bryson DeChambeau shared what the scene looks like for brand partnerships for LIV teams. DeChambeau thinks it depends on the PIF-PGAT merger and the how game turns out. He said that “as the merger gets figured out,” “the placement of League and Tour” will be fixed too.

Once it is figured out “where they’re going to go,” only after that, they will be able to commercialize more effectively. Furthermore, the Scientist exclaimed that since “people have far-end sights” for the league and Tour’s future, the sponsors might be hesitating in investing in the league at the moment.

DeChambeau was accompanied by his team and one member had been a long partner with Nike. Paul Casey spoke about Nike and their involvement in the game of golf, explaining where brands stand in the current scenario.

Paul Casey replied to the question by saying that although he does not have a partnership for his clothing, he is still with Nike wearing their footwear and gloves. Casey said, “I can speak on behalf of Nike. I was with Nike for 18 years and I still have a relationship. I still wear their footwear and their glove.”

The 46-year-old explained that Nike is “not getting out of the golf “scene but everything is “going through almost like an audit.” The Englishman was asked if he had something sponsored for LIV Golf. Casey replied that it is the question Nike to answer but they doing their due diligence.

His captain also chimed in that it is what every sponsor is doing and “they’re all trying to figure it out.” The PGA Tour and PIF merger was delayed in 2023. It is reported to be soon finalized and give the golf future a boost.
