Could Anthony Kim's return shake up the LIV Golf scene, or is it just wishful thinking?

Anthony Kim in, Pat Perez out. Or, Harold Varner III. Before the last regular tournament of the season, the internet is wild with 4Aces GC rumors. The onus is squarely on Dustin Johnson to ‘fix’ his team.

Currently, they are languishing at the 10th position on the season-long leaderboard. DJ’s team has only two top-fives this season. A far cry from 2023, when they finished outside the top five only five times.

Dustin Johnson, barring his Vegas triumph, has managed a top-ten only twice. Same with Patrick Reed, whose best performance was a T3 at Houston. However, it’s the other two members of the squad who have the most troubling performances.

Harold Varner III and Pat Perez have spent most of their season outside the top 20. Cumulatively, they have raked in 16.01 points. Consequently, they are also on the verge of the drop zone, Varner III at 47th, and Perez at 48th. The drop zone starts from 49th. Some fans are so disappointed that they would rather have Anthony Kim replace any of them. But, others feel it will make look LIV Golf ridiculous.

Anthony Kim to pair up with Dustin Johnson at 4Aces next year?

There are two possible ways things can pan out. Either Varner III and Perez manage to hang on to the open zone. Or, they both fall into the drop zone. In case the former happens, Varner III is likely to stay. But whether DJ would extend Perez’s contract is anyone’s guess. He already did last year, and it didn’t pay off much. If they fall inside the drop zone, they have to earn their place through LIV Golf Promotion later this year.

But, some already believe it’s time for Perez to be out. “Love Liv but Perez literally should be relegated,” one user wrote. Some claimed Varner III should also be on the chopping board. The East Carolina grad joined 4Aces GC only this year. Before even teeing off, Varner III got embroiled in a controversy after getting arrested on DWI charges. His dwindling form has done little to elevate his reputation, which was evident from comments like this: “Better with AK then (sic!) Varner.”

Some believe Anthony Kim to 4Aces is a possibility. In recent times, the three-time PGA Tour winner has been grinding with Dustin Johnson and others. Moreover, reports indicate that it was Johnson who convinced Greg Norman to sign Anthony Kim in the first place. “@AnthonyKim_Golf  [Anthony Kim] choosing to warm up in the @4AcesGC_ [4Aces GC] area this weekend,” one user noted.

But then Kim’s joining is a matter of debate among LIV Golf fans. The 39-year-old is immune from getting axed because he is a wildcard. Some don’t think Greg Norman’s decision is right. “I’m a big fan of the AK story but this would be a bit silly.” Another user commented along a similar line: “Nightmare blunt rotation.”

LIV Golf will return to action in Chicago on September 13. Nevertheless, the buzz around transfer is a good sign for Norman & Co. They can certainly leverage an underutilized factor to drive more conversation.
