The last three months have been nearly close calls for Nico Echavarria. At first, it was at the RSM Classic in November last year. He had exceptional rounds of all 60s and was yet left one stroke short of winning the trophy. Maverick McNealy took the title, leaving him tied for the second position. And well, 2025 started with an even more close call. He was almost there to grab his first win after last year’s ZOZO Championship.
Nico Echavarria played at the Sony Open, which concluded a few hours ago. He entered the Sunday round with full energy. However, his start became rather faulty. He opened the round with two bogeys. However, he compensated for them by carding eight birdies in the round. He was tied with Nick Taylor, which led to a playoff. The first show was a birdie by both the players on the eighteenth hole. And in the second attempt, while Nick Taylor carded another birdie, this time, Echavarria’s luck had an even par, and well, he lost again!
When asked if he felt the same emotion at the RSM, and if he was more comfortable with these results at the presser, Nico Echavarria had a rather positive answer. Stating how he has been more relaxed, he said, “Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. I’ve been sleeping better on Saturday nights, too. It’s something good, being around the leaders or being in the lead and you’re able to sleep well the night before. After Saturday in Puerto Rico I might have slept two hours and yesterday I slept like a baby, so, yeah, it’s been fun.”

After missing back-to-back cuts at the Procore Championship and the Sanderson Farms Championship, Nico Echavarria finally started acing his game. In October, he was in the field of the Black Desert Championship, and he tied for the 11th position with an impressive 15-under. However, things deteriorated once again when he missed the cut after the Shriners Children’s Open when he missed the cut.
Which led to his second victory on the PGA Tour. After that, he finished T6 at the World Wide Technology. Except for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, he has finished in the top 10 in his last five appearances.
Taking to this, he even said, “I believe in myself now. I believe that I’m one of the best golfers in the world, and every time I’m close to the lead I like the way I’m performing. It makes a very, very big difference because it was like that at Sea Island, too. I wasn’t hitting it great; I was making the putts. Being around the leaders or having the lead has been a lot of fun lately. Putting myself there was the hard part. Now I’ve been doing it more consistently, which is not easy.”
