Besides his incredible golf skills, Phil Mickelson is also quite well known for his gambling antics in the golf world. The golf pro has also been known for hitting hard at people who try to play dirty with him. A few years ago, the gambler even hit back at a golf journalist for pointing to his alleged claims of insider trading alongside Billy Walters. But it seems like people have yet to take a hint from that about Lefty!
A golf journalist recently tried to target the golfer by publishing an article targeting Mickelson’s gambling past, and therein began yet another of his Twitter wars, amid which he made yet another controversial statement!

Eamon Lynch, a golf columnist with Golfweek published an article calling out Mickelson for using his strong rants, such as calling the USGA’s rule change a “d*ck move,” as a defense mechanism for all the wrongdoings he has been allegedly involved in. The journalist posted the article on Twitter and wrote, “Phil Mickelson’s conspiracy rants are just a ploy to deflect a responsibility that lies with him.”
The article did not sit quite well with the golfer, and he shared his piece of mind in the comments below the article. Lefty called the article “a nice piece of fiction.” He called out the journalist for missing out on all the investigations that the PGA Tour, PGA of America, USGA, and ANGC are under for countless anti-trust violations, and he labeled the journalist’s trust in the PGA Tour “comical.”
The journalist snapped back at the 6-time major champion, drawing attention to how Mickelson has been under investigation in the past. He also pointed out the golf pro’s relationship with the sports bettor, Billy Walters. “I defer to your experience when it comes to being under investigation. How’s Billy Walters these days?”
I was cleared of any wrong doing. In fact, was listed as “innocent 3rd party” but that’s not what you seem to be reporting? Shows how manipulative a journalist(?) you really are. BW looks great. Saw him a couple months ago.

Mickelson seemed to be utterly unbothered by the journalist’s remarks. He said that under the investigation, he walked out with no blame to his name. In fact, he was termed an “innocent 3rd party.” 3-time Masters winner called out Lynch for being “a manipulative journalist” and not reporting the decision that was in his favor. Speaking about Walters, Mickelson wrote, “BW looks great. Saw him a couple months ago.”
How are Billy Walters and Phil Mickelson related?
Mickelson and Billy Walters met back in 2006 at the 2006 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, as mentioned by Walters during an interview about his book launch. The two had a gambling relationship that lasted for almost six years.

As mentioned in Golf Digest, Walters said, “As far as Phil owing me any money, we had a gambling relationship that lasted six years. From my perspective, I think it was more than that. I think we became friends.”
The two were then on trial for insider trading at Dean Foods. During the proceedings, Walters was found guilty and sent to prison. Lefty, on the other hand, was found to be a relief defendant in the case who just benefitted from the trading and did not engage in it himself.
