Having stayed in the circuit for quite a while now, Irish golfer Shane Lowry is more than just another player. The 35-year-old has recently been inducted into the PGA Tour’s Player Advisory Council for the 2023 season. In his first briefing since the appointment, Lowry pressed on the scope of his new role and the future generations of golfers.

Shane Lowry joins Player Advisory Council

To start off, the Irishman revealed his hesitation and apprehension before signing up for the post. “The PAC was never something I thought I wanted to be involved in, to be honest,” Lowry said. “I always saw the lads on committees and stuff and was like, surely that just gets in the way.”

However, after much consultation and reasoning, Lowry decided to join the council. “I think where the game is at the minute, it would be nice to be involved. I feel like I could have a little bit of input into what’s going on. I’m looking forward to being a part of that,” he added.

But what does Lowry bring to the table of council? In his own words, his popularity all over the world could play a key element for the group. “The fact that I am a global player probably helped,” he continued. “It’s probably nice for them to have someone like me on the committee.”

Yet, Lowry admitted to his shortcoming when it came to the know-how of the committee. “I don’t know what I can bring though. I don’t even know what it involves. I know it’s four meetings a year. But I’m involved now, and we’ll see how it pans out,” he revealed.

Furthermore, the 2019 Open Championship winner stressed upon the future generation of golfers and how the present crop could leave something better for them. “I just hope that in 30 years’ time, the guys that on tour are playing a better tour than I am playing now,” Lowry said.

“That’s what’s important for golf over the next while,” he continued. “And that’s why I am happy to be involved in the PAC on the PGA Tour. I am passionate about where golf is going and what’s right for the game.”
