It is not a secret that all young golfers dream of talking and receiving advice from the PGA Tour veteran, Jack Nicklaus. And as one of the friendliest golfers in America, the Golden Bear has always tried to share long one-on-one conversations with almost all professional golfers. Everyone but Tiger Woods!
“I never really had a conversation with Tiger that lasted more than a minute or two,” Nicklaus said after taking part in the ceremonial tee-shot before the 2016 Masters. “Ever,” he added.

The 6-time Masters champion had shared strategies to win at the Augusta National with others like Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald. However, according to him, Woods has never approached him.
“He’s got his own focus and what he does, and I respect that,” Nicklaus stated. Nicklaus further explained that people like Woods only concentrate on their achievements rather than the others. “I respect that,” he further added. “I wouldn’t intrude on that.”
Do Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus get along well off the course?
“I get along fine with Tiger,” Nicklaus said. “I like Tiger.” According to Nicklaus, he and Woods always indulge in small talk whenever they meet.
After moving from Orlando to West Palm Beach, Woods took membership at The Medalist golf club and not at Nicklaus’ The Bear’s Club. While one might think that the golfers don’t get along because of it, Woods had a reason not to join the club of the Tour veteran. “He stayed away from it,” the Golden Bear said. “He didn’t want to intrude where I was.”

The golf world has been comparing Woods to Nicklaus ever since he started winning majors like the legend. Furthermore, he also wanted to break the record Nicklaus created in majors and thus “didn’t feel comfortable” being around him.
Nicklaus’ record that Woods wanted to break
Jack Nicklaus played his last major tournament at the 2005 Open Championship at St. Andrews. It has been more than 20 years since he has played in a major event. Yet, the Golden Bear still holds the record for winning the most number of major titles, 18!

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, has won 15 throughout his career. As a passionate and competitive golfer, Woods always wanted to break Nicklaus’ record in the majors. And according to Nicklaus, the passion for breaking his record led Woods to avoid talking and being close with him.
