The fourth round brought about a roller coaster of emotions in the golf world as Ryan Fox came from behind to win the BMW PGA Championship. While the New Zealand golfer put up a stunning display to clinch the victory, McIlroy, on the other hand, had his hopes up at one point of the tournament before coming up five short of the champ, visibly vexed at the same.
In the post-match conference on Sunday, ‘Rors’ was asked the reason behind his frustration on the 17th. The golfer went ahead to mention how the penultimate hole had been his “nemesis hole over the years.” The Northern Irish professional continued, “I’ve never felt comfortable with that second shot” as he pointed out the awkwardness of the same due to where the ball was all the while expressing his frustration at the situation.
Adding to his woes, the 34-year-old recounted the final hole of the competition. Being unable to make a birdie on the 18th after the situation on the penultimate added to his already thwarted mood. But the 24X PGA Tour champion managed to dust himself off and move forward as he mentioned how he will “look back on the first 16 holes and think about all the good things” that he did despite the event ending in disappointment.
Although the Ryder Cup veteran was unable to finish at the top position, his performance was one that turned a lot of heads. Moreover, he was but one of the players from the European team for the upcoming patriotic showdown who made the cut and finished in the top 10.

All eyes were on Ludvig Aberg, the young gun who got picked as a wild card by Luke Donald, due to his exhilarating performance in the first two rounds. But fate had other plans as pressure got to the Swede leading him to place at T10 despite a phenomenal start. He could only score a 74 (+4) on his final day leading him to a total score of 12-under 276.
Accompanying him was the professional’s Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton who finished tied with Aaron Rai at T2. Hatton put up a stunning display of golf but ended up finishing second due to a loose drive on the 15th hole which saw him tail behind the Kiwi. The Englishman was able to register a 66 (-6) on the last day to total a score of 12-under 271.
