After defeating Lydia Ko in the LPGA Drive On Championship in January, Nelly Korda decided to take an impromptu break. skipping the Asian swing. Korda’s decision to forego the entire swing coming from the victory high might have confused some fans. But her absence from the events in Singapore and China had reasons so personal, she just had to prioritize it.

The LPGA star saw her time away from the greens more than just a resting phase; it was a chance to reconnect with her family and go back to her origins. First on her itinerary was to visit her family’s native home in Czech Republic. The long break provided Korda with a priceless chance to fortify her bond with her new nephew. Her sister, Jessica Korda, welcomed a baby boy with her husband  Johnny Delprete whom she has named Greyson John DelPrete. Bonding with her family was not the only thing that Korda did during her time off!

Korda also showed her commitment to coming back stronger on the greens. Her social media was a flurry of activity, showing glimpses of her training and getting better at her game. Her putting coach, Eric Dietrich, also shared a few glimpses of her practicing with her favorite Taylor-Made equipment and confirmed her presence for the upcoming FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship.

As Korda is making a much-awaited return to the professional game after a short break, one might wonder if she will still carry the January charm with her.

After a winless 2023 season, the first time since her rookie year, one could have thought that Korda had lost her charm. But that was not the case! After her T16 finish in the HGV Tournament of Champions, the golfer redeemed herself just a week later at the Drive-On Championship. Her final round tie with Lydia Ko ended in a nail-biting playoff where she outshined the New Zealander on the second hole after overcoming a three-stroke deficit with an eagle-birdie finish.

The one-time major champion tied for fifth at the 2023 DIO Implant LA Open. She must be looking forward to upgrading her finish from last year. Korda fans could wish that she might continue her streak from January. She must have gained new insights and energy from her trip back home and time with her family. As a result, her mental wellbeing, along with her physical wellbeing both on and off the greens, must be better too!
