The TGL made bold steps over the last few days in its bid to address the inclusion of women professionals in their setup. First, Rose Zhang joined the ownership group of the Bay Golf Club, a team that she has a close association with due to her California connections. “I want to help drive a different audience to the sport, and TGL is doing a great job of exposing new parts of the game by highlighting players’ personalities and bringing in fun elements,” the two-time LPGA winner explained, highlighting the way in which the league wants to move forward.

Meanwhile, serial winner, Nelly Korda showed her liking for the tech-based league by trolling Keegan Bradley‘s look during Boston Common Golf’s TGL Match. She compared him to the famous video game character Luigi, due to his thick moustache and green attire. Another LPGA Pro, Megan Khang was recently seen in attendance at the SoFi Center in Florida. She was decked in green and sported a Boston Common Golf Cap, so it was no surprise to see her cheering on Rory McIlroy‘s side against Ludvig Aberg‘s Bay Golf Club.

During Match 11 between Atlanta Drive GC and Boston Common GC, when asked about how the league intends to grow, Arthur Blank dropped a major hint—women might be joining TGL soon. “Potentially there will be gals involved, which would be great for the game,” the Home Depot founder said.

This is huge coming from one of the owners of a team. His reasoning is that there is huge untapped potential within the female golfing community that has seen very good growth in recent years. “Female golfers are playing more and more on course and off course,” acknowledged Blank.

Blank is the owner of two other teams, the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL and Atlanta United FC of MLS. So, he knows a thing or two about running a team as well as the workings of the league. The fact that this has been brought forth also means that routine discussions are happening behind the scenes. So, it will be only a matter of time before we can see the likes of Korda, Zhang, Khang or Lydia Ko tee up at the SoFi Center in Florida. TGL format also allows for easy incorporation of women golfers into the games. It is now a matter of when, and not if. These changes could be very imminent as the TGL is heading to a finish with playoffs fast approaching.

TGL Teams confirm playoff spots

On Monday, two teams confirmed their playoff spots. Los Angeles Golf Club overcame a stern challenge from New York Golf Club to clinch the second playoff spot after the Bay Golf Club. The LAGC tied with Rickie Fowler’s team after regular play, with both teams at 4. Collin Morikawa and replacement player Tony Finau, beat Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick to overcome the New York Golf Club.

The second game saw Atlanta Drive Golf Club make a spirited comeback after being 2-1 down at the end of their triples round. They earned 4 points in 2 holes thanks to the effective use of the hammer, allowing them to oust Rory McIlroy‘s Boston Common Golf with a score of 6-3. The loss meant that Boston Common Golf and New York Golf Club will be vying for the final playoff spot along with Tiger Woods‘s Jupiter Links Golf Club.
