The last time TGL made a newsworthy splash, the Finals had just ended after two months of technology-driven golf. The Atlanta Drive Golf Club clinched the championship on March 25 after winning a three-match final series 2-0 over the New York Golf Club. The third seed thrived on the overall performances of their members, Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and Lucas Glover, to see them through till the end of the simulator-based league. Nearly 29 days later, TGL has some news that is bound to create a ripple within the golfing community.
As per the report from Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal, TMRW Sports co-founder & CEO Mike McCarley divulged some key information regarding TGL’s second season when he was speaking on a panel at the CAA World Congress of Sports. He attended the event alongside Alexis Ohanian, who owns the Los Angeles Golf Club, one of the teams in the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-led simulator league.
“I’ve been bugging these guys about the LPGA deal for a minute. They have been very interested. It’s just that these things take time, and I’m not allowed to make any news.” stated Alexis Ohanian. The investor co-founded Angel City FC and also started a women’s track league named Athlos. His original pitch for being the first owner in TGL was to ensure it would expand to women at a later stage. “There’s no secret we’re working on that. Alexis has been a great thought leader for us on that, and I think most of our team owners are right behind them in that area, too.” McCarley also added very briefly.

This is great news for the LPGA fans and pros, with several key players expressing interest in TGL during the first season. It started with Nelly Korda, who watches TGL regularly and did not miss an opportunity to compare Keegan Bradley to Luigi from the Super Mario video game franchise on her Instagram story. Rose Zhang is also a minority owner of the Bay Area Golf Club, having bought a stake in it in early January.
Megan Khang has been an active presence on the sidelines, donning all-green during one matchup of TGL to support her favorite team, Boston Common Golf. Even world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul expressed interest in a simulator golf-like enterprise for women during the HSBC Women’s World Championship. I think it should be fun (indoor golf). Should be fun in the off-season,” the Thai golfer stated on February 26, 2025.
. @TGL's Mike McCarley said at @SBJ's World Congress of Sports this week that expansion would likely start with one new team, also noting that it will come from North America.

One of the biggest pushes for LPGA inclusion came from the owner of the 2025 TGL Winners Atlanta Drive. Arthur Blank, in a short interview during a match, candidly stated that, “Potentially there will be gals involved, which would be great for the game.” So it is a question of when and not if for the league that is just in its first year and looking to grow from strength to strength.
What’s your perspective on:
Will TGL's inclusion of women redefine the future of simulator golf, or is it just a trend?

Expansion plans for TGL
There is also other news on the horizon for the franchise-based league. The TGL will be looking to increase the number of teams for the next season, according to Mike McCarley. McCarley stated that there has been vehement interest in expansion from outside people, stating that he was “pleasantly surprised” at the number of bids he received for new teams.

However, McCarley and Co. are most likely to take it slow, increasing the team count from six to seven, with bidders currently narrowed to only those from North America. The TGL will likely “start with one [new team], and then it’ll likely grow from there,” according to McCarley. Ohanian also made it clear that the franchise ownership in TGL is “asset-light.“ That is because the teams don’t have a home course or training facilities, allowing for easy inflow of revenue. This could be one of the reasons why so many investors are interested in entering the marketplace.
What do you think of the premises being explored by the TGL team? Is just one team being added enough for season 2, or should more be added?
