Back in 2010, Tiger Woods made a vow. “I’ve made a conscious decision to try and tone down my negative outbursts. And consequently, I’m sure that my positive outbursts will be calmed down, as well,” he declared. That meant no high-fives with his caddy, and no more fist pumps or his cocky two-steps when he knew the putt was going to fall. But it took him years of playing to conquer himself. At that year’s Augusta, fans noticed the golfer looking more humble and calm.
He even interacted with fans, walked into his news conference smiling, and hugged Ronald Townsend (the first black member at Augusta National). But it might take time for Charlie Woods to show a similar transformation. The 10th Dustin Johnson World Golf Championship was held in Myrtle Beach on Friday and witnessed some of the biggest names of the world’s best junior golfers play. This includes Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie Woods, and President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump. No wonder the event which hosted 90 boys and girls attracted its fair share of attention. “I think the big draw today is probably Charlie Woods, Tiger’s son, but there’s also a lot of other great golfers. Boy and girls, future pros. They can hit the ball a mile so it’s fun to see,” said Dennis Schulz, who was an event volunteer.
Eventually, it was Aarav Shah (Australia) who won the event. After leading through 36, he shot a 73 to seal the win. This was his first win on the junior circuit since the 2024 Babygrande D.C. Classic. “This course is very tight and penalizing around the greens. I was just trying to keep my discipline and attitude throughout the tournament,” said Aarav Shah. “I knew that it was going to be a high-scoring tournament, so I just told myself to stay calm even if I made a couple of mistakes here or there.”

On the other hand, it was a tough event for Charlie Woods, as things didn’t go the way he would have expected. In fact, the popular YouTube channel ‘Parker Plays Golf‘ made a compilation video of every shot Woods played at the event and there were some instances where he looked visibly frustrated.

For instance, during hole 16-second shot, the teenager was disappointed by how he swung the club and looked unhappy. Then, at hole 18, as he hit the ball, his golf club slipped from his hands and landed a few feet to his left. Well, these instances became a hot topic; Especially considering Tiger Woods was renowned for his laser-like focus and composure under duress. At the same time, there have been instances where even he lost his cool.
We have witnessed him slam clubs.
We have heard him swear.
Fans have even seen him spit on greens.

Let us go back to 2011. It was the Dubai Desert Classic’s last round and Woods made a triple bogey. But when he spit on the 12th green after missing a par putt, Sky Sports commentator Ewen Murray didn’t hesitate and said on air: “There are some parts of him that are just arrogant and petulant. Somebody now has to come behind him and maybe putt over his spit. It does not get much lower than that.”
Further, tournament director Mike Stewart stated that the incident was ” a breach” of conduct and Woods was fined for it. The golfer later apologized for his actions on X. “The Euro Tour is right – it was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry.”

While Woods has his bad days, it seems Charlie has had one too. Regardless, golf fans expected better conduct from the latter. Here is what they said about Charlie Woods!
Fans’ harsh criticism: A reality check for young Woods?
Online comments on Charlie Woods’s performance during the event were overwhelmingly unfavorable. “Charlie needs a little attitude adjustment, freaking drama boy. Can’t imagine what his playing partners were thinking. Needs to happen now before it’s too late,” remarked one fan.
This opinion echoes the worries of many who think that he might not make as much progress if he gets easily frustrated. Professional golfers are supposed to remain composed and show enthusiasm when crucial, particularly in a competitive environment. This reminds us of a piece of advice Tiger Woods gave his son in 2021. The lesson? Be 100 percent committed to the next shot.
Woods had noticed that Charlie’s anger would result in mistakes for the rest of the round. “His temper carries over into another shot, another shot, another shot, and compounds itself,” Woods had observed.
As a result, he advised his son: “I don’t care how mad you get. Your head could blow off for all I care, just as long as you’re 100 percent committed to the next shot. That next shot should be the most important shot in your life. It should be more important than breathing.”
But in Charlie Woods’ case, he seems to be facing the same kind of early-career scrutiny as young players like Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth. Even more bluntly, another fan wrote, “What a brat!” Despite its harshness, such criticism is a result of great expectations. In the world of golf, the Woods brand is quite powerful, and many people anticipate that Charlie will be as mature and in control as his father was.
One fan wrote simply, “Sick,” while another stated, “Great video PPG. Looks like Charlie is a long way off from cracking any pro tour. Needs a little bit of an attitude adjustment!? Looks like he gets in his head a little too much.”

For any golfer to succeed, mental toughness is crucial. Even top golfers like Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm have discussed the mental difficulties of the game. And so, Charlie may require direction to prevent frustration from impeding his development. That being said, there were a couple of fans who sympathized with the young golfer.
“Anyone who’s ever played golf knows there’s days when you get pissed like that. That i can’t do anything right no matter what i try kinda days. Its a hard game, i can only imagine how hard it is with all that pressure,” one fan wrote. After all, it is crucial to remember that Charlie is still an adolescent who is learning how to manage the pressure of expectations. What do you think?
