Despite Their Brotherly Bond, $172.7B Giant Sees Tiger Woods Get Brutally Owned by Michael Jordan

Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan are not only the greatest ever in their respective sports but also share an extremely wholesome bond. In fact, growing up, the 15-time major winner had wished to emulate the NBA legend’s greatness, telling Trans World Sport, “I might be sort of like a Michael Jordan in basketball, or something like that,” in an interview in 1990.

In the years following the interview, the golfer also went on to achieve overwhelming success, even becoming a billionaire, just like Jordan. However, the latter has still managed to put a gulf between himself and Woods in this career aspect.

Michael Jordan eclipses Tiger Woods by a huge margin

Michael Jordan is more than just an NBA or Chicago Bulls legend. Over the past decades, the 60-year-old has also become one of the most prolific businesspeople ever. In 2010, he became the first ex-player to become a majority owner of an NBA team with his purchase of the Charlotte Hornets (then-Charlotte Bobcats). Now, per the latest reports, he is all set to sell his majority stake in the team for billions of dollars! After the sale receives approval from the NBA’s Board of Governors, Jordan will become a minority stakeholder within the franchise.

To make things even better, the completion of the sale will also see the billionaire’s career earnings improve by leaps and bounds! On the other hand, Jordan also boasts a neverending stream of income from Nike!  Per Front Office Sports, the NBA Hall of Famer received a whopping $256 million payout from them after his eponymous shoe brand made over $5 billion in the 2022 fiscal year.

To date, Jordan is believed to have made near about $2 billion in total with the sporting apparel brand! His partnership with Nike is also one of the factors that brought him close to Tiger Woods. “I guess my association with Nike did help that,” the 82-time PGA Tour winner told Oprah Winfrey when asked about how his friendship with the basketball great materialized.

However, Woods, who has been with the $172.7 billion company since the 90s, has made significantly less than Jordan. This is surprising, considering the golfer’s initial deal with them was worth way more than Jordan’s first-ever Nike deal!

How much is Tiger Woods worth to Nike?

Nike has partnered up with many illustrious sporting legends over the decades. However, only a handful of them have had as legendary a career as Tiger Woods. The golfer’s initial 5-year deal with the company was worth $40 million, following which another $100 million 5-year agreement followed suit. He then allegedly made between $20m-$40m per annum for the next eight years! Since then, his dealings with Nike have remained undisclosed to the public.

Also, according to Apex Marketing, the golfer’s resounding 2019 Masters win brought over $22 million to Nike just from screentime alone. Moreover, the company has also stuck by the golfer through his various hardships. Post Woods’ 2009 scandal, when the likes of Gillette, Gatorade, and more dropped the golfer, Nike continued to work with him, cementing a partnership unlike any other!
