Golf is a sport that has enthralled several athletes from outside the golf world. Be it young professionals, or absolute legends, athletes from other sports have found the game pretty interesting. And Michael Jordan is definitely at the top of this list. The NBA star turned businessman has always had a great interest in golf. But despite his monumental physique, the former basketball player finds the little golf ball too intimidating at times!

Is Michael Jordan scared of playing golf?

Jordan, 60, has had a remarkable career in basketball during his prime years. The legend made millions of fans for his incomparable speed and strength on the court and also won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls. Although it is not as easy as it sounds to have so much success in such a competitive sport, MJ just has a way of making it look easy. After all, weighing over 216 pounds with a height of 6.6 ft, the basketball star was fit for his role!

However, despite such a decorated career in basketball, Jordan has now found his interest in the game of golf. And it has been years since the player has been seriously practicing rounds of golf on the course. But to everyone’s surprise, the golf enthusiast recently opened up about how the game of golf can be a little intimidating for him sometimes.

In a recent Instagram video shared by Black Active Golf featuring Stephen Curry, Jordan made some hard-to-believe confessions about his time on the golf course. “From a competitive standpoint to me, it is the hardest game on the planet,” the basketball legend said. “I can always respond to an opponent, defensive guy, offensive guy, whatever. But in golf, it’s like playing in a mirror”

Well, with a stature like MJ, it is hard to believe that such a tall, strong, heavy man can be intimidated by a 1.6 ounce golf ball. But it is what it is! And if Jordan isn’t embarrassed about it, no one else should be.

What was the biggest issue for Jordan while learning golf?

As per Jordan’s golf coach, Ed Ibarguen, who has also been a member of the PGA Tour for several decades, Michael Jordan’s huge hand size was one of the biggest challenges for the player while learning the game. “I think the hardest thing he had to overcome was,” the coach revealed. “He has very large hands…The guys at Ping told me the grips they put on Jordan’s clubs were the biggest they ever put on a golf club”.

He also explained how having such big grips on the club made the clubhead extremely light. And so, they had to use lead tape on the club head to make the necessary weight and balance adjustments!
