Women’s golf has seen limitless talents flowing through the game ever since legends like Michelle Wie West stepped foot on the course. The golf star has made millions of fans with her epic tournament finishes and unfathomable victories in several events. However, despite being extremely talented herself, the retired pro is a big fan of another famous athlete for his golfing skills. And it’s not Steph Curry!

Who is Michelle Wie West’s new favorite golfer?

Professional golfers spend years and years of practice on the field to master their skills on the course. Not to forget, golf GOAT Tiger Woods made his first putt on TV when he was just two years old. The same has been the case with West, who developed an incomparable love for golf at a very young age. In fact, she even became the youngest player to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links, and also qualified for the USGA amateur championship at the age of 10!

However, there are some who come from an entirely different sports background altogether. But despite their newly found interest in the sport, they somehow end up being really good at it! They are so good, that even West calls them her favorite! In a recent episode of the Golf, Mostly podcast, Michelle and Hally Leadbetter were in conversation with tennis superstar, Mardy Fish, who came forward to speak about mental health, and of course, golf.

During their conversation, West made an unexpected confession about Fish appreciating his golfing skills. “I honestly think you are the best ‘non-golfer’ golfer I have played with and seen though,” she said. “I will give you that.” Not to forget that she was also in another conversation with Golf Channel’s David Feherty on the Feherty Up Close From a Distance podcast in 2020, and said similar things about NBA point guard, Stephen Curry. Having played a game of golf with him back in the day, she said, “I was really blown away about how good he (Curry) was”. But it looks like the LPGA Tour legend is an even bigger fan of Mardy Fish and his skills on the course!

How did the tennis pro find his way into golf?

The 41-year-old American has had a highly-decorated career in tennis during his time as a pro. But besides having commendable skills in his own game, Fish is also a fabulous golfer! And so, during the podcast episode, Leadbetter asked the hard court specialist how he found out about his interest in the gentleman’s sport. And here’s what he said:

“My mom tied a string to like the ceiling of our basement and at the end of it a tennis ball or whiffle ball or something. And we always had like rackets or baseball bats or a golf club…I would always just grab it with my left side and just swing…and it’s the same type of motion.”
