Long before the prestigious golfer of the PGA Tour was a household name, many in the golfing community recognized the potential in him. That’s how Steve Williams came to be his caddie and also the first person to call him overrated. It was meant to break the ice and form a bond between the golfer and his trusted man. And mission accomplished; at least till Williams retired.

But the author of ‘Out of the Rough’ wasn’t the only one who made that comment.

Back in Las Vegas, a few years ago, Tiger Woods took the tee shot, and it did not land as expected. If anything, it was a bad shot, which happens from time to time for all golfers. The 15-time major championship winner was no exception; save for the fact that he is one of the All-time Greats for a reason. Still, NBA Star, Charles Barkley off-handedly remarked that Woods is overrated. Golf Digest shared a hilarious tweet recalling the occasion saying, “File that one under freezing cold takes.”

The 5-times Masters Champion wasn’t fazed. In fact, he took the remark in his stride and provided an incredible response. No, he didn’t defend himself or ask Sir Charles why he said that. Instead, he picked up his golf club, headed to the next hole, and took his shot.

Woods made up for that one bad shot with consecutive birdies on holes 2 through 6, holing them all. Even if they weren’t aces, it sure proved once and for all that the 11-time PGA Player of the Year deserves every accolade he has received over the course of his professional golfing career. Words were meaningless when Tiger Woods and his clubs can say so much more on the links.

To this day, I don’t have any idea what happened,”  the NBA legend commented. “After that… thing, he just stopped talking to us.” He was referencing Tiger Woods’ unfortunate scandal and how the Golf GOAT disconnected from his friends. Although calling the 82-time PGA Tour winner ‘overrated’ had nothing to do with their fallout, nor do they have an outspoken rivalry, the two sports idols may not be as close as they used to be.
