As one of the best golfers in the world, Tiger Woods has seen it and gone through it all, throughout his career. Whether it his personal life or his profession, the golfer has struggled immensely in his past. Yet, he was able to survive all of them with special help from an entity who also faced similar experiences in his career; a person Woods considers as his sibling! 

“He’s established himself as probably the best basketball player that’s ever lived,” the golfer said about NBA star, Michael Jordan. “And he’s so well-known that what better person to relate to me.”

According to the 15-time major champion, MJ is a down-to-earth person. And as an athlete, he could relate to him more than any other celebrity. Furthermore, Woods added, “Mike is almost like my big brother right now.” 

How did Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan become close? 

Tiger Woods and the former Chicago Bulls star, started their friendship over their sponsor, Nike. Notably, Nike signed with MJ in 1984, in his rookie year. Likewise, the popular shoe brand signed with Woods in 1996, the year he turned professional.

Woods explained his relationship with MJ and how the veteran’s words helped him face so many adversities that came with his sudden stardom, head. When he appeared as a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Tiger pointed out, “Mike helped me out because Mike has already been there.”

Michael Jordan is the among the greatest NBA players of all time. From Rookie of the Year to becoming NBA All-Star 14 times, Jordan has received many accolades throughout his career. Notably, his career is what landed him in the FIBA Hall of Fame as one of their inductees. As a popular entity, Jordan has been through a lot in his life as a sports professional and thus was helpful to Woods when he encountered similar situations. 

Woods’ career from 1996 to 2022

Soon after he turned professional, Woods started his hunt for championship titles. Like MJ, he also earned the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year by winning two tournaments in his eight starts in 1996.

Woods has won 100+ golf events worldwide, including 15 majors and 18 World Golf Championships. Even though he has met with so many injuries and accidents, the golfer still plays professional golf. He attended three major tournaments this year, a year after he had been in a massive car crash. Furthermore, he became a billionaire in 2022, only the third athlete after MJ and LeBron James to achieve this feat.

Like Michael Jordan, Woods is widely considered the greatest golfer of all time. Therefore, it was not surprising when he asked MJ for help in coping with all the attention he got because of his career. Additionally, the two developed a brotherly relationship with each other.
