In a bid to turn its domestic soccer league into one of the sport’s most glamorous ones yet, Saudi Arabia has now set its eyes on French superstar Kylian Mbappe. Over the weekend, Al Hilal, a prominent team in the Saudi Professional League, made an offer worth a staggering $332 million for the 24-year-old striker to his current team, Paris St.-Germain.
Needless to say, the astronomical figure has sent shockwaves through the world, with players from various sports chiming in. Ex-NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the more popular figures to have weighed in on the matter, with his hilarious reaction even attracting the attention of a PGA Tour pro!

After making waves by attracting the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema with bewildering deals, the Saudi Pro League is now aiming to bring in Kylian Mbappe to boost its fame even further. On Saturday, PSG’s chief executive, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, received the official bid for the player from the Al-Hilal club.
While the world cup-winning soccer star isn’t too keen on the move, one sporting icon is more than ready to fill his shoes. On Monday, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo took to Twitter to make an unusual request to the Saudi Arabian club, writing, “Al Hilal you can take me. I look like Kylian Mbappe.” The Milwaukee Bucks player’s reaction has now gone viral, with even Mbappe retweeting it!

PGA Tour’s Michael Kim was also floored by Antetokounmpo’s tweet but issued a cautionary message himself. “All fun and games until they start a basketball league,” wrote Kim. “Team Giannis Team Lebron Team Kyrie to start?”

While the 2018 John Deere Classic winner was merely joking, his prediction may come true in the near future. Given the way Saudi Arabia has bought into golf and soccer, the NBA could very well be next!
Key details about Saudi Arabia’s $332 million offer to Kylian Mbappe
The Saudi Arabian soccer club Al-Hilal has submitted a world-record bid for Kylian Mbappe, understood to be worth €300m ($332m). It has been further speculated that the club is willing to offer him another jaw-dropping $776 million for a single season. The extraordinary sum would then stand at $1.1 billion, making Mbappe the most expensive player in the sport’s history if the deal went through!
On Monday, several news outlets reported that PSG had accepted the bid from the Saudi Arabian side. But there have been no talks between Mbappe and Al-Hilal so far. PSG, on the other hand, remains convinced that Mbappe, often considered the likely heir to Ronaldo and Messi, has agreed to terms to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
