Though athletes are divided by their specialization in their sport, most are united by their love for golf. However, there may hardly be any athlete who loves the 18-hole sport more than the NBA legend, Michael Jordan. After dominating the world of basketball, the six-time NBA Champion has been fulfilling his side quests by making golf clubs. Check out his exquisite club in Florida, which has members from Hollywood stars to legends of the sporting world.
Jordan’s love for golf was well depicted in his 2020 Netflix documentary, ‘The Last Dance’. However, his admiration for the sport is a lot more than just enjoying it in his leisure time. In early 2020, the MJ opened a private club named ‘The Grove XVIII‘ in South Florida.
The roman numerals in the name represent the iconic ‘23’, which is the jersey number of Michael Jordan from his Chicago Bulls days. While the NBA legend has stood out from the rest of the world when it comes to playing basketball, his golf club too is as tremendous as him.

What’s inside the exquisite golf club of Michael Jordan?
Set in Hobe Sound, Florida, the Grove XVIII was designed by veteran golf course designer, Bobby Weed. According to him, the inspiration for the golf course was derived from the legendary golf course, Shinnecock Hills. The property is about 227 acres on a flat, and is distinguished by two features—drainage canals on the western and northern boundaries of the property.

With canals on the side and no trees to worry the golfers, Weed believes the course does provide the vibes of a link-styled golf course. Members can also enjoy the full view of the course from their seats in the Clubhouse. The course is also bifurcated into a South End and a North End. Each of the four nine-hole routings incorporates holes from both ends of the property.
Moreover, on the 5th and 14th holes, golfers can switch to playing the front nine or back nine since there is a cross-over through which golfers can go to the Clubhouse. Though Bobby Weeds is the designer of the golf course, he has given credit for the beauty of the complex to Michael Jordan.
“He (Jordan) wanted us to build a facility that would give players an opportunity to practice under conditions that are extremely challenging”, said Weeds in an interview. He also claimed that the course doesn’t make the golfers feel like Florida despite being based in the Southern part of the state.
