The four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Stephen Curry, is not famous only on the basketball course. In July 2023, he was named the Ambassador of Golf by the PGA Tour Champions, Kaulig Companies Championship, and Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundation. But only a year later, he got an even bigger honor for his initiatives and skills that he contributed to the golf industry.

Stephen Curry was announced as the recipient of the 2024 Charlie Sifford Award. The World Golf Hall of Fame’s official Instagram account revealed that his initiative to popularize and make golf more accessible has been of huge credit. This includes the step taken by launching the Underrated Golf Tour in 2021, which aims to ‘provide equity, access, and opportunity to student-athletes from every community.’

They also added another big achievement for which he was awarded the honor this year. The caption of The World Golf Hall of Fame’s post read, “In 2019, he helped Howard University compete on the D-1 level by funding the golf team for the next six years. Howard did not have a golf team since the 1970s, and this is the first on the Division 1 level in school history.”

Following this, the retired LPGA star, Michelle Wie West, shared a story on her Instagram featuring Stephen Curry’s recognition. She wrote, “Congrats @stephencurry30, @jjrich2 @kgstoney, what you guys are doing with @underratedgolf is changing kids’ lives.”

The winner of the 2014 US Women’s Open, Wie West, has previously worked with Curry on the Golf TV show “Niiice Shot With Stephen Curry,” which aired in 2023. Along with Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala, and Alex Riggs, Michelle Wie West recreated some of the most iconic shots in golf history. The honored ‘Ambassador of Golf’ hence had taken another step towards continuing the legacy of golf through such a TV series. His recognition by the golf community thus remains something to celebrate, and his LPGA golfer friend, Michelle Wie West, did not delay with her best wishes for his latest achievement.

When Michelle Wie West officially retired from golf at the end of the 2023 US Open, Curry shared a video of her final putt at Pebble Beach, California. He congratulated her by saying, “Legend in the game! Congratulations on an amazing career.” The two share a good camaraderie and do not shy away from celebrating each other’s milestones.

Moreover, Curry winning the 2024 Charlie Sifford Award was not the first time that Michelle Wie West was completely in awe of Stephen Curry’s achievements. Years ago, West exclaimed another instance when Curry impressed her.

Michelle Wie West was impressed by Stephen Curry’s self-taught skills

In 2020, Michelle Wie West confessed in the podcast Feherty Up Close From a Distance, that she had once encountered Stephen Curry playing in a Boys vs. Girls Golf Team competition. It was conducted before Michelle Wie West’s marriage to Johnnie West. She described, “I was really blown away about how good he (Curry) was.”

Johnnie West, Wie’s husband, even caddied for the NBA star in many of his amateur tournaments. She was flabbergasted by the fact that Curry was largely his own teacher. She revealed,There’s no instructor that taught him how to play, and fundamentally like speaking he’s really good and he out of Bunker out of the short game like his touches amazing so it was really fun to see him play”.
