Though plenty of golfers have displayed their anger and frustration on the course, none come close to the animosity of John Daly. The legendary golfer has taken out his anger several times while competing in tournaments. However, during one of his blow-ups in 2008, the Wild Thing ended up destroying a fan’s camera and yet wasn’t disqualified for his actions.

Daly has played in several Tours and events in his career, which expands over three decades. In 2008, he was competing in the Oceanic Country, Australia for the first time in 6 years. However, his long-awaited return to Down Under wasn’t one to be remembered for positive reasons.
While competing at the PGA Tour of Australasia’s Australian Open, Big John scored a 6-over-78. Though the start was disappointing for the two-time Major winner, the evening only got worse for him at the Victoria Golf Club.
John Daly grabs a fan’s camera and throws it on the tree
During the ninth hole of his underwhelming first round, Daly pushed his tee shot wide. As he walked down through the trees, the Wild Thing encountered a fan named Brad Clegg. Getting the opportunity to see the two-time Major winner from up close excited the fan, as he took out his camera to take a photo of Daly.
However, the 56-year-old wasn’t too pleased with Clegg’s act, as he grabbed the camera and threw it on the tree close to him. “You want it back, I’ll buy you a new one”, yelled Daly. Following the round, the Arkansas-based golfer shared that he had no regrets over his actions. He claimed the camera was only 6 inches away from him and would have done the same thing even if he would be having a good round.
“If I was 10 under, I would have felt the same. My eyes are still burning from the flash of the camera”, John Daly said in the statement. After destroying the camera, the golfer continued to finish his round keeping in mind the penalty he would receive. However, the fan Brad Clegg too had some words to share.
Daly is a ‘Big Bloke’, says Clegg
Following the infamous incident, it was quite apparent that the media would scrutinize the fan, Brad Clegg, too. He was asked if he would seek any compensation from the two-time Major winner but rejected the idea.
Clegg said, “I don’t think I’ll be chasing him for the money. He’s a big bloke!” Moreover, he also provided reasons for Daly’s accusations, which stated that Clegg provoked him with the camera. “I was bold, but I wasn’t unreasonable,” he said.

As per the rules and regulations of the tickets in the Australian Open, the use of cameras by spectators is prohibited. Thus, no strict actions or fines were imposed on John Daly publicly, and he returned the next day to continue his second round. However, he failed to make the cut.
Regardless of Daly’s past frustrations, he has shown immense improvement in his character. Moreover, he even uses his past struggles to educate the upcoming generation on how to deal with them through interviews. The combination of Daly’s passion and talent is what makes him one of the best of his generation.
