Turns out not even Tiger Woods is immune. Immune from son’s savage taunts. At 15, Charlie Woods might have a long way to go to catch up with his father. But if there is one thing where he has already matched him (some would argue, exceeded), that’s smack talk. The world got an early glimpse of it at the PNC Championship a few years back, or when Woods confirmed, “He’s (Charlie) a little on the chirpy side, just like I am.” Now, even the 82-time PGA Tour winner has to endure.
Tiger Woods descended on the (indoor) greens at SoFi Center among rising applause. Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’ was playing in the background. “Are you ready for this?” the 49-year-old roared. One person wasn’t ready, so to speak. And that would be… yes, you guessed it right, Charlie Woods.
The 15-year-old looked mortified. Perhaps a tad bit, but the youngster didn’t find it very appealing that his father’s walkout song was perhaps the most… obvious one. The internet somewhat relates to him. One user tweeted, “Tiger’s TGL entry walk… Serena looks appalled. Charlie looks mortified. I’m here for all of it!” But it was just the start.

The debut could’ve been more impressive. Woods did throw the hammer even before hitting the first shot. However, there were a handful of blunders from him and his teammates, which gave the Los Angeles GC an early advantage. The former world no. 1 actually sailed a wedge way past the green from 101 yards.
It plunged into the water. TV cameras caught Charlie almost laughing in astonishment. “Charlie’s reaction to Tiger airmailing the green must be what my dad was like during every one of my high school golf matches,” commented one user. Another chimed in, “Charlie Woods mocking Tiger Woods is absolutely hilarious.”

This wasn’t the first time, obviously. At the 2023 PNC Championship, the youngster gave Dad a little bit of his smack talk at the press conference. Charlie won the high school state championship, i.e., the FHSAA Class A state championship, with the Benjamin Buccaneers, a title his father never could.
In Dad Woods’s defense, a California state title was never there to snatch when Woods was in school. But that didn’t matter to Charlie, of course. Asked about his experience, the teenager quipped, “It was fun having my scores count both days, even though I didn’t play very good. But having a win over him [Tiger Woods] and having something he doesn’t is pretty good.”
So, it’s not a surprise that Charlie was smiling as Dad missed big time. You can be sure that the teenager would taunt him at home or even during the halftime intermission. “Charlie making fun of Tiger. The torch has been passed,” one user wrote. Another user joked, “Charlie’s reaction to Tiger airmailing the green must be what my dad was like during every one of my high school golf matches.” However, the 15-year-old was not there just to watch or enjoy the day. He also had a greater responsibility ahead of the match. Helping Dad perform better.
Tiger Woods and son, Charlie, practicing on the greens
Pre-match visuals showed Charlie Woods working with his dad before the first tee. He was sharing some tips, and the father-son duo was seen engrossed in intense conversation. Perhaps Woods Jr. was offering some green reading tips to his Dad. Just like he did at the US Open last year.
Not that he is cocky; actually, the father-son duo practices at home more often than we would think. “I trust him with my swing and my game. He’s seen it more than anybody else in the world. He’s seen me hit more golf balls than anyone,” Woods elaborated on Charlie’s role at that time.
At this point, it won’t be an exaggeration to say Woods perhaps should’ve brought Charlie as his caddie on the greens. For those little smack talks. In fact, Kevin Kisner did ask the teenager if he wanted to ‘come play.’ Pretty sure, the 15-year-old wanted to. Too bad rules won’t allow him. But the broadcaster can (and should) bring him on the broadcast.
