An athlete with true sportsmanship always stands out as an example for everyone in the game. Such players, through their actions, give so much back to the community all the while exemplifying the values and ideals of the sport. And, Lexi Thompson has shown nothing but the same in her 15 years of professional career.

The golfer was unable to place herself at the top of the leaderboard at the event named after Annika Sorenstam, thereby losing more than just the trophy. However, she was able to win the hearts of many in the community, in a resurgence of sorts, with the spirit that she showcased on and off the course. And, in an interview, she was spotted being openly candid about the same, dubbing it as nothing short of an “honor!”

Thompson was only able to finish at T7 with a score of 13-under 267 at the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, despite an admirable performance. Moreover, the professional needed to place at least a solo T3 in the event to squeeze her way inside the top 60 of the Race to CME Globe standings to play at the CME Group Tour Championship, which she was unable to do being at No. 79. But even so, despite her loss, another recognition awaited the athlete in the form of the 2023 Founders Award.

In a press conference after the tournament, the 28-year-old mentioned how “happy” and “honored” she was to win the same. Moreover, the American Solheim Cup star indicated how being able to give “back to the fans and making an impact on the game,” was all she ever wanted all the while pointing out how she won the accolade because she is “a golfer.”

Adding on, she said, “There is more to life than golf accomplishments. There is more to life than wins.” The 11X LPGA Tour champ revealed how making someone’s day by helping them bring a smile to their face makes her day better, even after “shooting a bad round.”
