Now, as he prepares for the challenges, Keegan Bradley is weighing the pros and cons of being a playing captain versus focusing solely on leading his team. At the Tour Championship press conference at East Lake Golf Club, he was asked whether being a playing captain would impact his effectiveness as a leader.

Bradley’s response was thoughtful, reflecting his careful consideration of the dual role. As per ASAP Sports he said, I think certainly being a vice captain would help me being a captain at Bethpage because when you’re playing, your mentality changes a bit. You’re more stressed out. You’re thinking about, geez, I’ve got the alternate shot hole, I’ve got the tough drive. So there’s other things in your mind.”

Despite the stresses of competition, Bradley yearns to be in the thick of it with his teammates. He wants to feel the rush of adrenaline, the heat of battle, and the camaraderie that comes with shared struggle. Moreover, he’s known the Bethpage Black since he was young. As he put it, “But also being inside the ropes with these guys in the battle, in the heat, reminding myself how tough this is, and if a situation arises where I am playing at Bethpage, playing this, playing at the Presidents Cup would certainly help.”

Additionally, he believes that he can navigate the pressures of competition. But for that he’ll have to be better equipped, to guide his team through the crucible of the Ryder Cup. “I’ve gone back and forth, and I think that there’s pros and cons to both of them. Whatever happens, I’m going to have to figure out how to make the best of it.” said the 38-year-old. But can he wear both hats at the same time?

Keegan Bradley’s passion for the Ryder Cup burns brighter than ever. And the 7-time PGA Tour champion wants to experience it as a player, not just a captain. “I would love to be a playing captain,” he confessed. Additionally, his expectations are driven by his dream to compete at Bethpage Black, a course he’s known since his youth. “No one has really had the opportunity that I’ve had,” he added, hinting that this chance might be too good to pass up.

But for Bradley, being a playing captain would be a unique opportunity to lead by example. However, he acknowledges the challenges, saying, “It’s going to be really hard for me to make that team.” Because a captain cannot select himself for the team. That makes the automatic qualification his only route to playing. Yet, if he can achieve this, he’d relish the chance to wear two hats at the 2025 Ryder Cup. “I’d love to do that,” he said with enthusiasm.
