A couple of months ago, Phil Mickelson and his ‘nemesis’ were at each other’s throats in a long drawn fiasco. Sports analyst Brandel Chamblee, was deeply displeased with the pro golfer’s change of heart to start working with the Saudi PIF’s professional golf circuit. In turn, Mickelson also had a few things to say.

The feud got heated with time, pulling several other celebrity golfers into the mix. While the entire stint was entertaining for fans, the accusations and volatile firing on Twitter (now X), started to take a toll on Mickelson’s patience. He found the statements absurd, but now Chamblee took an opportunity to explain his bias.

When LIV Golf was first announced, a lot of golfers from the PGA Tour as well as supporters of the sport spoke out about the controversy of joining the Saudi-backed association. Brandel Chamblee was one of the few people who spoke openly about his views, especially on the recent unfiltered podcast episode of The Drop Zone.

He believes that LIV Golfers sold their soul for money and now the game is about greed. In his opinion, if the Saudis are going to adopt the game and success of the West, they need to advocate for modern approaches. “If they want to, buy the success of the West and pretend that they’re surrogate to the success, at least try to get out of the seventh century,” he said. Chamblee also added his distaste of the his understanding of the alleged human rights issues in Saudi Arabia.

Furthermore, the sports analyst explained his digs at Lefty saying, “Phil admitted they were bad people. But then in the next press said that he could use them for leverage.” He stated that the duplicity of Mickelson’s decision is what disappointed the commentator and he lashed out.

At the end of his rant, Chamblee expressed his disappointment about Mickelson’s stance on the matter. The former golfer turned sports analyst feels that LIV Golfers sold their soul for money and now they have to turn a blind eye to any atrocities committed.
