The golf world watched with bated breath as Woods made his return at the 2022 Masters, posting a respectable T47 finish. An injury led to his withdrawal from the 2023 Masters midway through the tournament. But the very sight of the 15-time major winner over the first two rounds reignited hopes of his roaring comeback among fans.
Since his professional debut in 1996, Woods has encountered a litany of injuries and surgeries that have halted his illustrious career. In 2008, after winning his third US Open victory in June, he announced he was undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, sidelining him for the rest of the year.
Barely two years later, in 2010, he faced issues with an inflamed facet joint in his neck but just after a month, he was back on the course. By April 2011, a sprained MCL in his left knee and a strained Achilles tendon disrupted his game as he announced withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship for precaution, but just a month after he was a part of the Players Championship in May. Despite these challenges, he continued to play until a strain in his left elbow in 2013 and back surgeries between 2014 and 2017, including multiple microdiscectomies, further tested his resilience.
Yet, perhaps the most heart-stopping moment for fans worldwide was the devastating car crash in February 2021 in Southern California, which inflicted severe leg injuries and cast doubts over his return to professional golf. However, showing his indomitable spirit, Woods made his comeback, although he still faced struggles, evident when he withdrew from the Hero World Championship in December 2022 due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot but played at the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, the same month.
Tiger Woods’ Future Ambitions Amidst the Retirement Rumors
Speaking on the Bridgestone Golf podcast in September 2022, 47-year-old Woods hinted at his interest in joining the Senior Tour once he reaches 50. Expressing his excitement, he remarked, “In 3 more years, And I get to ride a buggy like those guys out there,” making a lighthearted reference to using a golf cart on the course.
On the other side, the much-anticipated news regarding the return of Tiger Woods has been in the air for some time. On the business side, Tiger is a part of the tech-fueled TGL league, focusing on a fresh era in golf. It’s both thrilling and curious to think of Tiger being part of this new phase.
