Michelle Wie West has just created history. She turned pro in 2005 at the age of 16 and has since won multiple tournaments on the LPGA Tour, including the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open.

Wie West has also competed in several major men’s golf tournaments. 

Recently, West announced that she has joined The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A), one of the most prestigious and oldest golf clubs in the world.

Wie West has broken records by joining the R&A, becoming the first female member in its 260-year history.

This is a significant achievement as the R&A is one of the most prestigious and exclusive golf clubs in the world, and its membership is highly coveted.

With a profound love and respect for the sport, she now wants to contribute towards its promotion. “Golf is an incredible sport which has given so much to me throughout my career. I now want to use my platform and knowledge to contribute to golf away from the course,” she said.

Wie West desires to work towards promotion of women participation in golf. She aims to promote the sport in the Asian market and work in alignment with the R&A to better the sport with her knowledge and know-how. “I am excited to be able to help shape the future players, both those who like to enjoy golf recreationally and the young talent who aspire to a playing career,” she added

Furthermore, this is an indication that golf and other sports are finally recognizing the need to be more inclusive and diverse. This will benefit the sport and the players.
