It has been barely four months since one of the most coveted tournaments on the women’s golf circuit, the 2023 Hanwha LifePlus International Crown concluded and this year Thailand took home the trophy of this prestigious international event. In this event, seven other countries participated, along with Thailand, one of which was England. Now, before the match teed off, a tragedy happened to the English team.
Charley Hull and Georgia Hall withdrew their contribution to this biennial event and that came out as a major setback for the entire squad as it was a last-minute decision. Despite Hull’s failure to represent her country and retract her involvement, recently she has been provided another shot to uphold her country’s glory at Finca Cortesin, Spain. Now, the question arises. Can team Europe enter into a hat-trick with Charley Hull this year?

Charley Hull is having a thriving year on the LPGA schedule this year. The utmost credit for her latest stellar performances goes to her excellent form on course and outstanding management skills whenever the course is tricky. If we take a look at her overall performances this season, she had five best ten finishes. Out of these, two were in majors like the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach and the AIG Women’s Open Championship held at Walton Heath Golf Club, where she stood in second place in both tournaments. Even in the AIG Women’s Open Championship, her score was 71-68-68-73 in the four rounds respectively.
Other than her performance in majors, she recently made an appearance in the Kroger Queen City Championship held at Kenwood Country Club, where she gave a tough competition to Minjee Lee and tied a score of 16-under with her LPGA compatriot after four rounds. Then, as a tie-breaker a playoff round took place, where Lee led over Hull by one stroke and thus bagged the victory title and payout. But Hull also secured the runner-up place and bagged a handsome paycheck of $181,723. Now, with her overall performances throughout the year, Hull boosted her LPGA Rolex ranking, which came as a boon in disguise when the Solheim Cup selections were taking place.
The 27-year-old golfer got chosen in the European team of the Solheim Cup as an automatic qualifier along with other renowned LPGA names like Georgia Hall, Linn Grant, Celine Boutier, Maja Stark, and so on. In this list, Hull’s name was included because she sealed her place through her eighth place in the LPGA Rolex rankings. Her performances for the LPGA season were so brilliant that she didn’t have to depend upon Suzann Pettersen’s discretion. Thus, this serves as the answer to why Hull made her place on the team though she backpedaled from an international crown back in May at the TPC Harding Park, due to her health concerns.
Besides this, Hull is quite an experienced contender as far as the Solheim Cup is concerned. She made her appearances previously in the years 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021. This season will be her sixth appearance in this greatly heralded event. She has played a total of 19 matches in this tournament and boasts an overall record of 11-5-3. As far as her last-time record is concerned in the Solheim Cup, she had 2-2-0 in 2021. Thus, it is safe to state that she has achieved her seat in Spain and it is a much-deserved place. Hence, the chance of winning with such a player who is in great form and has expertise in the tournament is highly likely.

Charley Hull’s LPGA record book looks lavishly ornamented with best finishes throughout the season but one thing that she missed out uniformly in every event is a winner’s trophy. Yes, the LPGA star’s trophy cabinet had been void throughout the season and even last week she missed out on the Kroger Queen City Championship as well, though she gave tough competition to Minjee Lee and extended it till the playoffs where her gameplay finally faltered.

Now, after the event concluded Hull was surrounded by a press conference, where one question consistently came to her, that was her “hunger” for a victory after such an exhibit on the greens. To answer this, Hull expressed her desire for a triumph and said she was “looking forward” to it.
