Just a day away, the 2023 Open Championship has brought much excitement to the golfing world. While the players had their eye on the win at the last major of the year, the fans were undoubtedly on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the start of the event at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Among the players who are ready to compete for the Claret Jug is current World No. 8 Max Homa. While the rest of the golfers gear up to duke it out on the golf course ahead of the tournament, it seems like the PGA Tour star has already claimed his first win at the historic course just hours ahead of the major. And it’s all thanks to a young fan!

On Tuesday, while Homa made his way through the practice round at the Liverpool course, he stopped for a young golf fan who had a sign up that read, “PLEASE PLAY ROCK PAPER SCISSORS FOR A GOLF BALL”. Obliging to the little fan’s request, the 6-time PGA Tour winner went on to play with him.
It was there that Homa grabbed his first victory on the course by obliterating the fan who chose paper while he himself chose scissors. The small win brought a smile to his face as the 32-year-old walked off without leaving behind a golf ball.
Taking to Twitter after, the social media jokester shared a video of the game he shared with the fan and wrote, “I’m awful at rock paper scissors and I’ve played bad in most majors. I think this could ultimately be the turning point for both going forward #pvo”

The pro golfer has not had a very good run at the Open Championship in the past. He had finished at T40, settling with a score of 279 (-1) in the 2021 Open while failing to make the cut at the competition held last year. Moreover, like he admitted this year too, he hasn’t had a great major run. While he missed the cut at the US Open, he only managed a tie for 43rd and 55th at the Masters and the PGA Championship.
However, Homa is undoubtedly hoping the small win might be the change he needs to win the trophy this time. And considering that his performances this year have been remarkable, he is certainly one of the top contenders for the Claret Jug this week.
Homa’s early win draws varied responses from the golf world
The American professional golfer is quite famous for his social media, as he takes to his handles to share posts and stories that give the fans a hearty laugh. The recent tweet showing his win at a game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ has also gotten a bunch of responses from the golfing community. Let’s take a look at some of them.
One fan went on to mention how the game is played best of 3.

One fan went on to hilariously talk about how he should select his clubs during the game with his caddie.
You should do this with your caddie when you're undecided on a club selection.
