The illustrious 2023 US Women’s Open wound up on Sunday, July 9. The game witnessed many eminent golfers face the challenging Californian greens. Among these renowned names, legendary, Annika Sorenstam also delivered some good shots. Thanks to the special exemption she received, Sorenstam was able to play in the $11 million event.

Alas! She did not make the cut after accumulating 15 over par in the first two rounds. However, more than the stroke play of the golfer, it was the fact that she was playing in her last US Women’s Open that grabbed more attention. Courtesy of the distinguished career of the 72-time LPGA Tour winner, she has been able to gather some serious fame over the years. Hence, it made complete sense for the golf icon to share her wise insight regarding the event and the course it was held on.

As the 2023 US Women’s Open spread its wings on the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links, it stamped an elemental first appearance. Analyzing similar lines, Annika Sorenstam accepted the impact the historic golf course has created. Crediting USGA for hosting women’s major on Pebble Beach, she said that women’s golf has come a long way.

As a matter of fact, the statement holds true. Initially, women’s professional golf never had an opportunity to take on the acclaimed greens. Sorrenstam believes that many young girls around the world would have witnessed the event. As per Sorenstam, these girls would sure be dreaming of playing on these greens one day which also adds to the impact created by the same.

In fact, the 52-year-old golfer has long been saying what it means for women golfers to play at Pebble Beach. Prior to the tournament, she had said, “It’s such a magnificent facility. But there’s no doubt that having it at events like this takes us to a different notch.” 

Furthermore, Sorenstam added in the recent interview that looking at the 2023 US Women’s Open she can confidently say that “women’s golf is in good hands.

Sorenstam accepted that a women’s major on the reputable Pebble Beach aligned with similar principles. Besides, she also divulged the reason behind her presence at the women’s major. She spoke about how her desire to “continue the inspiration and motivation” led her to the major tournament. And how her aim continues to push women’s golf forward.
