Entering the Greater Toledo LPGA Classic this week as a fan favorite, Rose Zhang was able to get right back into her rhythm as she went on to score a 66 in the first round. After her flawless performance with five birdies, the rookie golfer came forward to reveal her hidden card, which helped her perform well. That secret weapon of hers was none other than her caddie, Jason Gilroyed!

The looper is Zhang’s first professional caddie and has been by her side since she turned pro in May. Being a veteran and having caddied for many big names such as Rosie Jones and Minjee Lee, Gilroyed knew the lay of the land, which was a tremendous help to the pro golfer.

In the interview after the round, she opened up about how having someone who had seen the course before helped her play better. “I think just having someone pretty experienced with the lies, it makes me feel rest assured that I can go wherever I need to and have a good game plan while I’m at it,” said the 20-year-old.

As in any game, or more so in this case, the looper will be very important for Zhang as she makes her way across the unfamiliar golf course. As Zhang gears up for the rest of the competition, she will undoubtedly be looking to her caddie to further guide her in the right direction and keep up her extraordinary performance from the first round.
