Keegan Bradley, since turning pro in 2008, has witnessed many ups and downs in his golfing career. The win at the $20 million Travelers Championship this Sunday is definitely inclined toward the good side of the see-saw.

The first three rounds were exceptional for him with scores of 62, 63 and 64.

On the last day, he again started good with birdies but soon after three bogeys brought him down a peg or two. Despite this, it did not slow down his momentum. He was able to clinch the victory at 23-under-par, his personal best score.

The triumph not only allowed the professional to rise on the OWGR and FedEx standings but also provided him with a much-needed push toward the Ryder Cup points.

Keegan Bradley opens up about his aim to participate in the Ryder Cup

One of the most anticipated men’s golf team tournaments, the Ryder Cup, will take place in the last week of September. The prestige that accompanies this event makes it desirable enough for golfers. Hence, when the 2023 Travelers Championship winner expressed his wish to make it to the American team for the Ryder Cup, it was no surprise!

In the post-tournament press conference, Bradley said, “This is a pretty big step towards doing that[Ryder Cup]. I’m 37 years old. I hope to play in multiple more. I don’t know how many more with everybody so good, and the younger kids, just the team is incredible.

New England’s pride expressed his desire in clear terms to be able to compete alongside everyone, didn’t he?

He also stated how Ryder Cup was one of the first things he mentioned to his wife following his victory.

With still two months left for the automatic qualifications to close, the 2011 PGA Championship winner wants to go from strength to strength from here. “I still got a lot to show the captain,” he said

Bradley and other golfers’ qualifying scenario for the Ryder Cup

Currently, the Vermont golfer has ascended to the seventh berth with 7,322.75 points on the Ryder Cup US Team rankings. This has pushed Keegan Bradley, who has not played the prestigious tournament since 2014, into the mix for a possible automatic qualification; given he manages to move just one more place up. Although, achieving that might not be an easy task, given how strong other contenders are.

Three major championships and several PGA Tour events count for the Ryder Cup. Six names leading the US Team points include Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa and Patrick Cantlay.

However, there is still one more championship left that might allow Bradley to collect points as he is less than 300 points short of the sixth spot.

Another advantage for the 37-year-old is the presence of Brooks Koepka’s name on the list. Despite a remarkable win at the 2023 PGA Championship, his LIV Golf status doesn’t permit Koepka to participate in the PGA Tour events which creates a disadvantage in gaining points for the professional.

However, Koepka has been extraordinary this season in the majors and those performances can make a big difference eventually. Moreover, some other golfers just behind Bradley also have a chance of making it into the team through automatic qualification.

In addition to the six assured positions, there are six more captain’s picks for this team event. All this enables a lot of opportunities for Bradley and others to give their best for a possible qualification.
