The Greenbrier event came to a close after three days of successful rounds. Despite a streak of less-than-ideal performances, Bryson DeChambeau overcame the odds and emerged as the victor. As always, it appears that his father’s words of encouragement, reminiscent of the famous line “Just keep swimming” from the movie ‘Finding Nemo,’ played a role in his triumphant journey.

As DeChambeau stood as the winner of the tournament, tears welled up in his eyes during the post-match interview. With a teary eye, he went on to talk about the real struggle he had gone through on his path to achieving a historic feat at the LIV Greenbrier.

Recently, DeChambeau has been soaring to new heights with his improved driving skills and impressive putting ability. He first demonstrated this at the LIV Golf Invitational Andalucia, where he secured the second position. But it was at the Greenbrier where everything truly went his way, as the eight-time PGA Tour winner clinched victory with a remarkable 58 in the final round. After his exceptional performance, his overall score stood at an impressive 23-under after three rounds of play.

Following his remarkable victory, the 29-year-old golfer was overcome with emotion. This win held special significance for him, as it marked his first triumph since the passing of his father, Jon, in November. While celebrating on the 18th green, DeChambeau was approached by a reporter. During the interview, the interviewer sensitively mentioned his late father’s name, which brought tears to his eyes.

NUCLR Golf shared the video of this interview on Instagram. Fans can see the American professional golfer trying hard to fight back his tears. When asked about his father, DeChambeau stated that, though not physically present, his father was still there with him throughout the day. He further went on to say, “It has been a really difficult last couple of years, but finishing out this way with a 58 or whatever it is, it is all glory to God and glory to Him upstairs.

DeChambeau’s father had been battling kidney disease for many years before his passing, thus making the past few years for the one-time major winner “difficult.” Perhaps this had seeped into his performance considering he had gone over 2 years without a win. However, throughout these touch times, the golf pro stayed strong and his family stayed united.

He even praised his mother for parenting him and teaching him life lessons. This says it all: He is truly a family-loving man. And on a day like this, he undoubtedly made his dad, who meant the world to him, proud.

DeChambeau’s close bond with his late father

The 2020 US Open Winner had a deep bond with his father, Jon. The golfer openly acknowledged his father’s influence in his life, even sharing that Jon was the one who introduced him to the game of golf. His father consistently supported him and assisted him in seizing unique opportunities throughout his golfing journey.
