This enabled him to wash off his almost 8-year drought on the PGA Tour. Now, it is the 27-year-old who has ended his six-year wait with the 2023 Visit Knoxville Open.

The greens in Tennessee witnessed some exceptional stroke play yesterday. While Rico Hoey went on to claim the title, it was his determination to earn that position on the leaderboard which was phenomenal. Not only as a golfer did he provide the viewers with brilliant putting but his journey adds significant value to his performance.

The one-million-dollar event ended with high-level contention. Rico Hoey’s awe-striking performance led him to claim his first Korn Ferry Tour victory on the 18th hole to clench a five-under-par-65. Even though his achievement and skills have left everyone stupefied, it is his journey to the title that remains no less than an inspiration.

It was in 2017 when Hoey turned professional, his focus shifted toward tournament achievements. Though, his path since then has not been an easy one. Hence, it is only natural for this success to bring great relief and happiness to the golfer after all the hard work he has put in. Korn Ferry Tour‘s official Instagram page uploaded a video of the new title holder reflecting on his sheer determination to enter the international golf world even when it seemed impossible. It was his faith and will to succeed that kept him going even through tough times. While mentioning his Coach Ross, the golfer added, “I remember two years ago, I asked for a job, and he made me put up tee markers. And after that whole month, I didn’t want to do that anymore. So, I’m really happy to be here.” Despite a hard-earned win, Hoey remained humble and remembered his roots, family and partner. Surely, his efforts have been worth it as they will pave the way for better professional days for the American golfer.

Rico Hoey takes a step closer to the PGA Tour card

The development league of the PGA Tour, also known as the Korn Ferry Tour, is known as the stage for many resilient, hopeful, and inspiring stories. After winning the Visit Knoxville Open, Rico Hoey also added his name to such chronicles. As said by Hoey himself ‘What a journey’ defines his sentiment and the emotions of everyone around him.

However, it was not only the victory that he took home but also a hopeful future as a professional golfer. After finishing on top of the leaderboard over Norman Xiong and Chase Seiffert at Holston Hills Country Club, Hoey moved up on the points table as well.

Right now, Rico Hoey stands on the second berth in the Korn Ferry Tour ranking, just below Ben Kohles. This win helped him earn 500 points which ascended him to 1257 points right below Kohles’ 1278. According to the rules, the players who are in the first 30 positions on the points list at the season’s end would progress toward PGA Tour.
