The hype has reached an all-time high as the battle for the $20 million title reaches its climax at the Olympia Fields North Course on Sunday. A close competition in the making, golfers who led the scoreboard after the second round of the FedEx playoffs, have been pushed back as Max Homa, who was atop the leaderboard, finds himself in the 4th position after the third day.

The BMW Championship, on Saturday, turned out to be a roller coaster of emotions for the golfers as the scoreboard saw a flurry of changes. Moreover, Sam Burns was able to put up a stellar performance at the tournament to register a score of 62 (-8) on the third day matching Homa’s course record which he put up on Friday. But even as he pulled off an amazing feat, it seemed that Burns was unsatisfied as he opened up after the day’s play.

Addressing a press conference after the record-matching third round of the FedEx playoffs, Burns disclosed what went through his mind after the performance. The 27-year-old golfer wanted to break Homa’s record as he said, “Unfortunately, yeah… I wanted to beat him,” in the interview conveying his frustration with the situation.

But even so, Sam accepted what he received as he said, “I didn’t want to tie him…But I’ll take it.” while expressing his pleasure for registering a low score at the event. Homa’s happiness was evidently short-lived as another American golfer took the stage to share in his limelight.

Through Saturday’s eight-under, Burns was able to add another feather to his cap as he scored the lowest in his career for the second time. The golfer had achieved the feat for the first time in his career at the second round of the 2021 AT&T Bryson Nelson where he birdied six of his last eight holes to register a 10-under 62. But even so, one can only hope that he will be able to pull off a win this time since he could only place second at the 2021 event settling for a 266 (-22) in 2021.

Although the 27-year-old golfer came into the championship at the 19th position in the FedEx rankings, he had a rough start to the championship scoring a one-over par and a par score in the first two rounds. But the stellar performance in the third round not only pushed him up the scoreboard to the T7 position, but also threatened Brooks Koepka‘s chance at the automatic qualification for the Ryder Cup team.

If Burns goes ahead and wins the BMW Championship, he will be able to pass Koepka to cement his place in the US Ryder Cup team earning himself an automatic spot. The golfer is currently at the 12th spot on the American rankings and he will be able to secure a spot while pushing the LIV Golfer, who is already on thin ice, further to the edge. One can only wait and see what the final day has in store for us.
