It was 2016. The ongoing Cognizant Classic was called the Honda Classic back then, and Adam Scott beat the likes of Sergio Garcia and Justin Thomas to win the trophy. However. Smylie Kaufman would remember the event differently, all thanks to the ‘Bear Trap’. He had gone ahead to angrily snap his 7-iron in two after hitting the ball into the water. Well, come 2024, Paul Goldschmidt couldn’t help but become impressed at the same.

The 36-year-old was spotted having a talk with Kaufman at the infamous holes that were designed by Jack Nicklaus. As they did so, Goldschmidt went ahead to compare the act of breaking the club to that of when Bo Jackson split his baseball bat into two!

“That’s impressive,” stated the professional, all the while admitting how the golfer breaking the club in 2016 was reminiscent of what Jackson did many times over his career, including his first professional home run. Adding on, he said, “I’ve been told that the trick is you got to really commit to it,” all the while sporting a smile on his face

Continuing with his response, the professional admitted, “I haven’t broke it over my knee.” But he went ahead to point out, “We got a benefit that can go down in the tunnel,” before going ahead and admitting, “I’ve broken some bats off the wall and off some other objects but not on my knee.”

Meanwhile, Kaufman went ahead to comment on the parallel that was made between him and the now 61-year-old former baseball player. “The only thing Bo Jackson and I have in common, is we have the same birthday and that is it,” said the 2015 Shriners Hospital for Children Open Champ.

However, that was not the only highlight of the 2016 event. Interestingly, during the final day of the tournament, Shane Lowry also went ahead to deposit the ball into the water on the 15th hole, following the golfer, all the while eliciting an amusing reaction to the same.

During the PGA Tour event, the Irishman went ahead and dropped an iconic F-bomb after hitting the ball into the water after Kaufman. “Ahh you f**kin idiot,” swore the golfer as soon as the ball hit the club in his Irish accent. The response, after 8 years, seems to be dubbed one of the most perfectly timed f-bombs on the Jay Monahan-led circuit.

Meanwhile, Lowry also went ahead to comment on the NBC analyst’s club break. “That was a clean break,” said the professional as he continued, “I tried to cut a little 7-iron in there as well. I cut it alright.” Nevertheless, both athletes seem to have made themselves a part of history following their outbreak on the course, something that everyone deems as nothing short of amusing at the moment.
