Weather has been a big problem for the 2024 golf season so far, wherein numerous PGA Tour events have taken a hit of their wrath. A lot of rounds have been delayed, canceled, and suspended! A few of the LPGA Tour’s too, but it has not been able to shake down the golfers’ morale. The women of the golf fraternity are in New Jersey for the second edition of the Mizuho Americas Open. It is scheduled from May 16 to May 19 at the Liberty National Golf Club. The 120-player field will compete in the shadows of the Manhattan skyline for a total purse of $3 million.
Along with defending champion Rose Zhang, eminent players like Lydia Ko, Lauren Coughlin, and other top players on the LPGA Tour will grace the greens. Zhang is coming to defend her title with a high from her win at the Cognizant Founders Cup, but will her quest be all smooth or do the gods have different plans? Well, the reports show the latter.

According to the weather reports issued last week, the first round of the Mizuho Americas Open has an overall precipitation probability of as high as eighty percent. Even the forecast clearly states, “Mostly cloudy and breezy with a touch of rain.” If you are planning to witness the tournament live in New Jersey, make sure that you have your umbrella and be prepared to wait if the round gets delayed or even suspended.
The chances of thunderstorms on opening day are as low as 1%, with cloud cover at a whopping 94%. The temperature in the morning is expected to range between 15 and 19 degrees. The wind will blow at 22mph from NNE. It might rain for 2 straight hours, with a density of 1.2–1.5 mm. The dew point in the morning will be 14%, making it difficult for the ball to get proper friction on the club face. In morning tee times, golfers might witness precipitation, and humidity will be as high as 83%.
As the day progresses, no significant weather improvements will be observed. The weather will almost remain the same, just a little bit more humid. If the players have good luck, the game will go on without disruptions, but that looks pretty much like a far-fetched dream at the moment.

Top contenders at the Mizuho Americas Open
Nelly Korda’s consecutive winning streak with five victories came to an end last weekend. Rose Zhang lifted the trophy and got pumped for her title defense. The LPGA cover girl finished at T7 with a whopping difference of 17 strokes to the winner. However, this weekend, she sure will be more than ready to steal the limelight again and get on with the quest. The Standford star has had an average season so far. She has missed two cuts and only had two top-10 finishes at T-Mobile Match Play (T5) and the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions (T7). She has played in seven events so far, and her latest win might have encouraged her tremendously.
