Scottie Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romies, has turned up the heat against LMPD. In the joint media address, Mayor Craig Greenberg and LMPD chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel released two new pieces of footage from nearby traffic pole cameras. Although they don’t offer a clear picture of what transpired, in the absence of the body-cam footage, that remains the only piece of evidence.

Scheffler’s attorney, Romines, has seen both pieces of footage. The veteran believes “all the evidence that continues to come out” bolsters his client’s statement. The two-time Major champion, in the wake of his arrest, said it was nothing but a “big misunderstanding.”

The footage shows Scheffler’s car slowly moving forward, taking a turn towards gate one at Valhalla. A police officer runs along the vehicle, trying to stop it. It was not clearly visible whether the officer tipped over or was dragged by the Lexus. Another video from a different angle shows Scottie Scheffler pulling up his car and the officer handcuffing the 27-year-old. All these, however, happen within a few minutes.

Talking about the new evidence, Romines said, “(This) won’t impact my case at all. Our position is the same as it was last Friday. Scottie Scheffler didn’t do anything wrong, we’re not interested in settling the case, we’ll either try it or it will be dismissed.”

Netizens, too, are shocked at LMPD for continuing with the charges despite any verifiable proof. Previously, they were unimpressed by the videos. Now, they agree with the veteran attorney that the charges should be dropped.

Scottie Scheffler was wronged by LMPD, fans claim

The police report and Gillis’s statement in the LMPD Body Worn Camera Failure to Record Form reveal that Scottie Scheffler tried to break through the blockade, ignoring Gillis’s warnings. The world no. 1 has been labeled with four charges, including a second-degree assault on a police officer. It’s a class C offense in Kentucky that can result in 5–10 years of imprisonment. But fans don’t believe any of it!

One user tweeted, “Everyone know (sic) louisville pd screwed up.. if the DA had any evidence it would already be out there.” Dubbing the entire fiasco, a “miscarriage of Justice by cops,” one user commented, this “shouldn’t be allowed to carry Scheffler’s shoes.

Some even believe that it will have a far-reaching impact on the state. And rightly so, perhaps, considering that a controversy on this scale involving the World No. 1 in golf nonetheless could not bode well for even the authorities. “It is now damaging the reputations of Louisville & Kentucky. This is going to result in a negative economic impact longer-term if this doesn’t get resolved quickly.

The newly released videos don’t make the situation any better for the LMPD. Gwinn-Villaroel revealed that Gillis was suspended because he failed to turn on the body cam. Moreover, his career record also showed that Bryan Gillis has faced disciplinary action before.

“The latest video does not make the LMPD look good, and makes u question the charges filed,” one user noted. Some believe this is a regular case, but not everyone can hire an attorney like Steve Romines. “And how many (are) sent in jail or even prison right now for similar incidents, but lack the means to prove their innocence or the notoriety for anyone to care even if they could.”

The 10-time PGA Tour winner was arrested last Friday morning while trying to enter Valhalla ahead of his tee time. There was, however, a traffic blockade due to a shuttle bus hit-and-killing of John Mills, a 69-year-old security guard at Valhalla. The current Masters champion, unaware of the mishap, and the changed tee times mistook traffic officers for tournament security and tried to circumvent the snarl-up, resulting in his arrest. Scheffler’s arraignment date has been rescheduled to June 3.
